changing gearbox oil?

  R32GTR Skyline /Clio Rsi
How tricky is this, only asking as its something i havn't done before, is it as simple as the engine oil. I am pretty sure the oil has been leaking out of the gearbox for a while as it can be tricky to get it into gear when the car is cold.

Yep just like engine oil filling its a bit more difficult as the fillter hole is down thefront of the gearbox facing towards the radiaor.

Similar lines, how much oil do you need to put in?

Have a valver and has a 3.4 litre capacity does that mean i need to put in 3.4L?

a drain and refill will be about 1 litre short of the capacity of the box guy's.

Sorry didnt understand that, bein a bit thick i think!

Did you mean I need only put 1L in? or need to put 2.4L in?

What calrkie means if you just try drain and resull your box you don't manage to get all the oil out so you won't get the same amount itn Renault did when the engine was new as some old oil is still in there.
I'd say you'd get about 0.5 lites less in My williams took 3.5 liters when the clutch was changed.

JC5 boxes should only take 3.1 litres!

blimey, 1l is quite a bit to remain in the gubbins of the box. The haynes manual says you fill it till the level is just below the filler hole anyway so it should be easy enought to judge how much goes back in.

Got to sort my leak first somehwere around the gear selector mech i think?
