Changing Manual Mirrors to Electric?

Ian

Had a search for this, but can't find anything. Is it possible to replace manually adjustable mirrrors for the electric equivalent?

For example are the electric controls on the mirror plate itself, where the drivers manual adjuster knob would be? Or is it on the door card?
Also, is the Clio pre-wired to accommodate electric mirrors, so it's a case of swap and plug them in, or would I need to wire it all up?

I need to replace my passenger mirror anyway, so figured I'd look into this. Where would the cheapest place be to get a set from?

Are the mirrors on the ph1 the same as on a ph2?

If they are, I could be persuaded to exchange mine for yours if it's something you want to go through with.

The mirrors I have are all plastic Mark, slightly textured. There is no casing on the back, it's all one piece.

As you can see, one of them is held on by a cable tie lol. It's been like that since I got it, but I've not attempted to find out what's up with it yet.

I'd be up for it, but I don't want to be trading faulty goods, so I'll try and find out what's up with it first! Are yours colour coded blue?

Is the electric adjuster thing by the A(?) pillar Mark, or on the driver's door card? If it's in the doorcard sounds like a lot of work for me.

Yours has the earlier type mirrors, some do have the wiring ready in the doors, but guessing from your car it probably doesnt is it a 98-99??

The elec mirrors would still fit but you'd have to get a bit clever with the wiring. Possibly new door cards needed too.

Yeah it is Dave, July 1999. How easy would it be to find out if the wiring is in place? I guess if I need new door cards the controls are located on them, rather than up by the mirror?

Was thinking of getting a Dynamique style interior anyway, something plain and black looking, but not having much luck.

There will be a plug inside the door if the wiring is there. If it isnt i reckon you would probably just need to get a pair of door looms.

How much we talking for a door loom Dave.. couple of quid? And where would I be looking in the door; behind the card, or behind the plastic where the manual control is located?

Ok cheers fella, I'll have a look at mine tomorrow, fingers crossed I'm wired up and that the mirror isn't too messed up.

If anyone can hook me up with a set of ph1 door cards with mirror control, please get in touch!

Youd need the door cards that are similar to the ph2 clio, the ones where the elec window switches are in with the door grab handle. The elec mirror switch is on the driver side grab handle. The mirrors will also be heated when the rear demister is on.

Some door cards from a 172mk1/RSI/Etoile/Intiale will do, youll also need the blanking plates that replace the manual controls.

Right ok, will put up a wanted thread in a minute.
I'm going out to check if the wiring exists or not now. Having looked at Fubar's guide, will the putty definitely stick back down easily? I don't really want another rattle in the car!
