checking engine mounts

I want to check my engine / gearbox mounts i have a slight vibration when pulling away hard in 1st and from threads the top engine and upper gearbox mounts are possible options.

given i've a Ph1 there is every chance they are still originals, so the weekend looks good so thought i would brave it and have a look see.

but what are the common signs of wear / failure to be checking for? as these are rubber how much 'play' is acceptable?

Another Sunflower! :D

I had huge problems with engine mounts, first thing to check is the dogbone mount, near the cat. If the rubber looks perished at all, get a polybushed one.

I spent a long time messing with the upper engine mount and gearbox mount, when the whole time I had a dogbone mount from a Kangoo van that wasn't doing the job properly.
