After driving, how long should you wait before checking the oil level?

Yep my oild still read hot after 5 minutes I changed the oil in my mates car after 5 minutes and that definatly wasn't cold.

Never ever change the oil when the engines hot!!! Especially after 5 mins!
It takes about 30 mins for "most" of the oil to drain from the internal components and make its way to the bottom of the engine.

at least 30 mins before checking (if you think its running at little low) re-check in th morning after the car has been laid up for the night. Remember to check it on a level surface.I would leave at least 45mins-hour before changing. hot oil burns are nasty!!

As has been said best leave for 30mins at least after a run to check the level. Personally I always then run the engine for 5-10mins to warm the oil up so its less viscous so its easier to drain (and it also picks up any loose deposits in the engine better). But be careful when draining (thick gloves should be worn!).
