Checking oil...

Whats the correct procedure, is it ok to check when the car has been standing cold for some time? My dad reakons youre meant to run the engine for a bit then check? Obviously the car has to be on a level surface cheers

ive always done it when its "warm" (ie. what ur dad said)

You should check when cold 1, So you don,t burn yourself 2, So you know all the oil has settled and a truer reading is found.

Righto so basically the reading is meant to be taken when the oil is all in the sump...makes sense i guess

The manual says check it when its cold. Some other cars should be checked when warm...french!
