Cigarette lighter issue

  172
Hi guys,

I'm a complete novice at anything electrical so sorry if this is a silly question.

Last night i went to put my phone charger into my cigarette lighter port in my 172, however there was a tiny piece of foil in there somehow, this then seemed to touch both connectors, spark and then there was a burning smell. Now my cigarette lighter won't work, could this be a fuse issue, do i need a new cigarette lighter unit or is it something completely different?

If anyone could help i'd appreciate it :)

you will have operated the fuse.

so just remove the foil, replace the fuse and it should be all good.

lol you tell me i don't own a clio

think it's in the dash when you open the passenger door iirc

Ah alright great stuff, sorry to be a pain but where exactly is the fuse located?

Open the passenger door. On the side of the dashboard there is a panel. Open it and there are all the fuses. On the other side of the panel is a reference for the right fuse.

James- try cleaning out socket with contact cleaner, also in some cases the prongs on the charges do no spring out enough to earth within the socket, so could try bending them out a bit (carefully)
