Claiming for Steering wheel on Warranty

Has anyone tried to claim for the common worn steering wheel thumb rests under the initial 3 year warranty?

I've had a M3 in the past and I heard of people claiming for the worn seat bolsters sucessfully with BMW but only in the initial 3 years, the extended warranty didn't cover seats or trim etc.

plenty have tried, few have succeeded.

Depends on the reno garage you go to... some will do it as they worry about claiming from Reno uk later, others (bigger ones) just flat refuse.

Mine got replaced (just the wheel so the airbag bit was still peeled a little.) on warranty but I had a good relationship with the branch so maybe a rare case

I suppose its worth a go for me to try. I just hate it when they "computer says no" when clearly, something like this should last more than 2 and a half years. Its just bad quality and they shouldn't be able to get away with it. Sorry, rant over.

i got mine replaced as well...just the steering wheel. because only one of the thumb grips had peeled away i told them it wasn't wear and tear. they replaced it no problem under warranty

be prepared for a wait as it took about 3 months to get it established that mine wasnt wear and tear.

eventually i got money off one, but not a new one

Them not giving you a new one is a joke tbh. My mate had 3 steering wheels in his old Corsa under warranty heh.

Whats my argument as to why its not wear and tear coz I suppose it is isnt it but thats not the point. If the seats were made of silk and they wore out after 2 weeks of getting in and out of the car then thats wear and tear but its also not fit for purpose. Have i just answered my own question

Tempted to do the same. Over the last month my right handle has gone from perfect to awful. I've always been cautious with it and rarely even hold it there (covered it in summer too). My theory is the hot air from the right hand vent has contributed to melting it over the winter period, where the heating was used every time I got in the car. I really don't want to replace it with something that doesn't have an airbag either.

Has anybody bothered contacting some sort of company that does rubber mouldings and considered sorting out a group buy for getting replacements cast up? I know it's not really the point of the thread, but it wouldn't be too difficult to get some moulded and made. Sure you could sell 'em for £10 or so each. Just need to peel off the old one and stick on the new one. Just get them done in a higher durometer of rubber so they last a little longer...
