Hi all..

Not sure if this is the right place for this or not but its all i could think off.

My F1s are absolutely filthy and theres alot of baked on brake dust and they havent been washed for about 2 months.

I want to refurb them myself next month, im just wondering how i would go about getting most of the s**t off them?

Will Iron-x or the likes take alot of it off?

Thanks
Liam.

get the worst of the grime off first with a wheel cleaner or strong shampoo. then go for the ironx, or try the paste version for a stronger more localised bits

Thanks Dave, do you have any idea if my paint will react with any sorts of cleaning products?

Ill be giving them a good clean then rubbing them down, any idea?

I think ill go order some iron x just now and try it, and if it doesnt take most of it off then ill get some of the paste!

Thanks!

it depends what your thinking of using? typical car shampoo or diluted all purpose cleaner to start with will be fine. ive not known ironx to react with paint either. but if youll be rubbing them down after to get a good key in the paint it wont matter

Thanks dave. Which one out of them? Is there no cheaper option? The £12 is ok but i don't think i could pay £20 on a brush, so would the £12 be good enough etc?

also where's best to buy this iron x stuff? And do we get discount?

If you're refurbing them, just buy cheap stuff. Pointless trying to look after the wheels if you're rubbing them down.

Get yourself to B&Q, buy some brick acid and 2 or 3 toothbrushes. You'll get change from a tenner and the wheels will be stripped of dirt in no time.

Just don't use it once the wheels are painted!

I use the stuff everyday at the valeting place, it's nasty s**t but it does the job.

I buy my Iron X and stuff from cleanyourcar.co.uk.

I have both EZ brushes. The small one is fine for Clio wheels. I only need the large one for the wheels on my other car which are 305 beasts.

Clean them with general car shampoo then use Iron X. You might need two hits with it if they are really bad. It's harmless on paint too. I use it all over my car. You'd be surprised at the amount of iron fallout on the paintwork. Just make sure you wash it off before it dries.

But as Daniel says, not much point spending much time and money cleaning them if your just getting them refurbed anyway.

Thanks Daniel and V800..

Yeah i just want to get the s**t off them, i dont want to get them mint or that.

Tried a little bit of tar remover on saturday while i was washing the car and it seemed to take a bit off but obviously its for tar.

Daniel, that brick acid stuff, have you got any idea if it will react with the new paint?

Cheers

If You rinse the wheels off after you've cleaned them, There will be no acid left on them....

Why are you making this difficult??? Lol
