Cli0 1.2 sport 07 plate failed MOT Track rod ball joint excessive play - dangerous

My Cio has failed its MOT and I have been told it needs a replacement ball joint and probably a track rod as well. The cost for this is about £200 fitted with tracking realigned seems excessive but as the car is stuck at the garage have agreed to pay!

One of the boots is spilt so that is being included. Is this a ripoff?

Sounds roughly right.

Pattern part TRE is roughly a Tenner, rod is about £30 I think, hours labour @ 50/60, CV boot (assume that's what you meant?) is about £15, with another hours labour.

if you want to take the car to another garage to be repaired or home the garage can not stop you doing so as long you have paid the bill for the mot or work do prior to the mot that the have done.
if you do get a cheaper quote and take it to a different garage for repair make sure you take into account the price of a retest if they charge for them.

you are allowed to take the car too and from an mot station and place of repair if it has been booked in in advance.
