Clicking noise from UCH!!!

Ive got an intermitent problem of an annoying clicking noise coming from my UCH. Does'nt happen all the time, but once it starts its really bad. My drivers window does'nt work either & ive tried a new motor & checked there's power in the wiring. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Sorry forgot to mention its a clio 172 2003plate.

tell them your car cut out and this clicking happened when you started it again and you are unsure as to what it is.

replaced at a renaultspecialist garage saving you £400+

Mmm...thats a thought. Some1 was telling me it could be water in the ecu, they were wrong!!!

Deffo a UCH fault this, we've seen a few. Ideally needs a new one or you could try for a repair... Will never be right though.

I think we charge about £340 for them supplied, coded, etc

I used to do them but tbh, once they go you tend to fid they keep going and it gets annoying seeing the same units come backwards and forwards all the time.

It's your call but I'd recommend you just just bite the bullet and get a new one.

Is it that there's a broken solder on the circuit board or something else? I really ain't got that kind of money at the moment, but really need to stop the noise!

Get a second hand ecu/uch/key/barrel set of someone breaking a ph2 172. Plug and play! Will cost you about £100. If its a cup, get a cup replacement, if it's a full fat get a full fat, otherwise it's less straight forward.

It'll depend what's actually wrong but from what you're saying I think you've possibly had water ingress which is common and takes out the components and the PCB... To be sure you'd have to remove the UCH and take it out of the hard case.

Jonny makes a good point, a 2nd hand set will do you right also. You can mix them up between the Cup, FF, Trophy etc but it will need reconfiguring on CLIP of you do as they all have different levels of equipment which is coded. Try to get a unit from a same spec car as yours if you want to plug and play or else you'll new to pay for CLIP time.

Might as well let a child loose with a soldering iron on it. Would have more chance of fixing it.

i bought a second hand one, uch, ecu, key ring decoder (i think) worked ok for me for a short while, but, my alarm didnt work, cruise control didnt and itd cut out randomly.

brand new one paying a £35 excess and my car was electrically sound.

Sounds like you had the wrong uch mate or it was from a car without cruise

Can easily be fixed on CLIP... Just needs some config tweeks and the adaptives resetting.

i have similar problem although all my lights go off although the fogs still work... had it on a CLIP at the stealers a year ago and they couldnt find any problems and within 5mins of driving off the forcourt it happend again

I found a kit on ebay, everything looks the same but the ecu has a different part number to mine! will that matter?
