Climate Control Heater Stuck on (172)

When I turn my climate control on, I can't control the blower speed (think its stuck on about 3/4 bars) I then turn the unit off and it blows even harder. Only way to stop it is to turn the ignition off for a few seconds then not turn the unit on again on start up.

I'm assuming the units had it? anyone had a similar problem?

Hi,

Phew found someone who is having the exact same problem. Mine started doing this tonight and i cannot figure out what is wrong with it.

Did you manage to fix this? How can i fix it if you did?

Actually reading your problem, mine is a little different. The Off button seems to make the AC unit blow harder and the buttons on the right to control the speed of the blow don't work.

Yeah I fixed mine. I replacing the heater resistor pack, its a little silver box which controls the heater controls, I got one from a breakers, if you go onto car parts gateway (i think its called off the top of my head) and they search all the breakers and its cheaper than buying a brand new one from Renault. They give you a warranty too!

I think i paid about £45 for mine. Its where the pollen filter is under the scuttle panel on the passengers side.. the resistor is to the right, it has the block connector with 5 wires on it,. fixes with 2 6mm bolts. Just pull the silver box out (theres the resistor) and plug the new one in...

I'm a bit confused though.....if it was something like this, would the whole unit just not work? My climate control seems to put the unit on full power when i press the off button and doesn't change the blower speed, everything else works. It's a bit annoying because i can't turn the speed down and thus can't hear the radio.

Mine was exactly the same!! U push off and it came on full speed. It will fail in time though yes.. somedays mine worked, somedays it got stuck on.. its this unit that control the heater speeds.. you could also look on ebay, but then you wont have any warranty if its doesnt work like you do with the breakers. I think mine came from Just Renaults.. they give you 3 months warrantly.

Thanks very much for your help. Gutted now that it's going to cost a lot, all i seem to do is spend spend on this car :dapprove: . Oh well, can't live without AC .

You can clean up the metal connectors with an emery board.. i did and it worked on mine for about a week, i know of some people who have managed to get it working again full time tho. its worth a go.

Oh, i'll give that a try tonight. And it is just near the pollen filter. I'll do a search for what it looks like because i don't have a clue.

Hye,

Just had a look at where I thought it was, I removed the water 'shelf' thing and pulled the socket out with various coloured wires; about half way into the width of the windscreen. What exactly am I looking for? Does anyone have any pics?
