Climate Control , worth it

Ive found a dealer who will do me a half decent deal on a Clio Cup, £11,500 , does anyone think this can be beaten? If so Ill push for more discount!

But Im pondering over climate control, its an extra £695 I think, but is it worth it? Can anyone whos got it please comment?

Got my 172 for a grand dearer so id push for more discount. Got the climate control, but id live without it if i had to pay an extra £695. Just goes through more fuel.Youll be having too much fun driving it to notice it isnt there.

Ye its fantastic, on really hot days when you feel like you cant breath just jump in and switch the climate control to 16 degrees.. fantastic, deffo worth 695.

RE the fuel thing, I drove all the way back from York with the aircon on and it didnt affect my MPG in the slightest, I think the extra fuel usage is a load of bollox... it might rob you of a bhp or two though.

Its not just the aircon either, when its cold outside you can just set it to 20 degrees or 21 degrees and thats it, the perfect temprature in the cabin, no adjusting the heat all the time or the fans ..

I would deffinatly pay the 695 extra for it.

Get the CC, agree with KDF that in the last couple of weeks when ive used it more than ever, not really noticed any difference in the MPG. Also the quick clear windscreen function is fantastic.

Yep, Id agree with KDF and adtmits. Its well worth the money and £695 is actually pretty cheap for a climate control extra on a car - its usually over £1000.

There is nothing like it on a hot day, and as KDF said, its not just about ice cool air when its hot. It controls the temperature of the cabin all the time, so no continual messing with controls. It keeps it spot on for you.

If youre worried about the performance loss, then just hit the off button and open the windows if you need to get maximum performance for a short period

Yeah it was 1k for aircon not climate control on the CTR and they fit it at the dealer!!!

KDF I can remember! I think I asked the original question. Well I got the climate control because of that thread and it is well worth it! Though it is only a £295 option on the 1.6!

Im sure driving round with the windows down will waste more fuel than having the aircon on. I can see a few new cups to be ordered with air con so with any luck r-sport will bring out an ecu that works with it. although the 172 needs auto lights and wipers in the ecu as well

does anyone actually use the auto lights ? I mean how dumb a sh*t do you have to be to not know when to switch your lights on..

I must admit a couple of weeks ago when it was sooooper hot, I ended up arriving at meetings feeling a bit sweaty and I wasnt too happy about it, but hey, cant win them all.

Im not particularly bothered about the cost side, but if you think that adding aircon may rob at most 5% of your engines power and add - 5Kg? - then get aircon, and spend some money upping the power on your car to compensate for the weight/power loss, if that bothers you.

I didnt even think about buying a clio till cc was made an option on the cup.

I can live with loosing 3mpg, 5bhp, and adding 5kg in weight. Ill just chip it and have a dump B4 driving it!

Could I just have an explaination on CC. I understood A/C to be a separate item. ie one of my cars has CC and the other has both A/C and CC. ?

The A/C is not an option for the Cup only CC.

A/C blasts out cold air and CC keep the ambient temperature to a chosen level as in Controling the climate.

I use auto everything - lights, wipers, climate control.

CC is defo worth the performance penalty (what is it 0.1secs)

If you want cc (its a good option) then try to get it on the car at the price hes offering you now, that would be a bargain!

I dont understand what you mean ?

If you have CC on and set to say 18 degrees and the outside temprature is 25, then the CC will activate the air-con to lower the inside temprature.

So the CC and the air-con will work automatically, although they can both be overridden individually.

Ive had Climate on my last three Clios. Once you have it you cant live without it. Dial in a temp and let it do the rest!

CC without A/C would be useless.

Initially ive said i could do without AC but just lately its been really really useful. Yeah it saps some power, but if you see a race, just switch it off (bit like a BOOST button!!)

Sorry KDF on your comments on the auto lights, if there auto this means they come on from dusk onwards therfore there is no option whether you use it or not ..ie it will come on like it or not , its not a matter of shal I use its or not duur p

I switched off my auto lights, which you can do by putting it to the acc switch on the ignition then turn the lights switch to side lights, off, then back to side lights again and it will beep.. no more auto lights..

Could someone please reply to Gunners question about retro-fitting it - cos I want it too!!

I asked about this at my dealer about 3 months ago, ie before it was announced that the cup would be available with cc, and they estimated about £1000 in parts plus £4-500 labour; thought £1500 a bit steep and so have made do with windows, but if they could retro fit for £695 Id go for it - anyone else enquired?

£1500 would be about right, the reason its a £695 option is cause its easier to have the aircon fitted while the car is getting built.

You could always go to a scrappie and try to recover all the parts for the aircon and get a private garage to retrofit it ? probably your cheapest option.

isnt the aircon hooked up to the ECU aswell ? so that it knows when its on.. dunno about that one.. worth checking out.
