How was the starter checked? When mine did this, the first time it was the connections onto the starter motor.

Is the immobiliser light going out on the dash?..although I think it would still crank a couple of times

Seems like an immobiliser, where are you located maybe someone local may have the Renault CLIP diagnostic, I'm in the warrington area but am fairly new to it so don't really know how to work it 100% yet

If the immobiliser light is staying on then as above, sounds like the cause. Although I thought when I had mine it let you crank a couple of times. Earth straps might be worth a check as well.

The progress of elimination begins, just gonna have to try different solutions until you obviously get the right solution, this is why you could do with a diagnostics, it will narrow it down or even tell you the issue

That's the UCH inhibiting the vehicle starting because of a fault. Most Common on the 1.2 is either the keyfob itself, the decoder ring or, get ready for it, the UCH itself is faulty and they're about £380-400 from me to supply and code up and Renault are a fair bit more.

As mentioned above you really need the vehicle plugging in to CLIP now to see what exactly is causing the LED to remain lit. You can try other bits of kit if you like but most aftermarket kit struggles with the Renault security protocols even some of the newer SnapOn kit like the Ethos and Vantage.

I've had it on laptop at work and it's say the ecu is locked dose that mean anythink

Not really no - Which ECU and what software are you running? A modern Renault has anywhere up to 12 separate computers in it and the CLIP II has around 5-6. A wiring fault between any of them can stop the vehicle from running.

When mine had a similar problem on my mk3 1.2 it was indeed the UCH but it was somehow rusted on the underside and had snapped a pin, soldering it back up corrected it for me luckily, but I'm going to have to buy a new one before the next winter comes in
