Clio 1.2 temp issue

[Inferno]

​Clio 2001 1.2 16v

Fan keeps coming on, coolant temperature goes up to normal insistently from start, revving engine reduces temperature.

Any ideas?

Possibly new thermostat, dead easy to fit with 3 screws and there about £10 from euro car parts.
