clio 1.2 tuning

  renault clio (black 3dr)
hey guys hows yall
ok first of all i want to no the best ways to tune a 1.2 8v mk2
second of all i want you all not to laff because i could easily go out and buy a fast car to start with but my goal is to make a fast road worthy 1.2
ive already had it lowered 35mm and the handling iz sweet, ive still got tyre roll on the little steeles but when i get the new team dynamics 1.2 race in 16's this should be sorted ive also got a k and n induction kit which is situated in the front fog lamp to give the baby as much cold air as possible
so what i ask is if you guys could give me some tips and idears of what to do to the little darling(lol) all tips will be veryyyyyyy apreciated thanks for the support
socttyyyyy

Im 1.2 8v and done f-all for a reason. Its not worth the £££'s for any great benefit.

Stick to the subtle styling mods, Ive got 1.2's in Black and down on Eibachs so similar to yours. For a wee bit more power and looks get a cat-back exhaust system and de-cat pipe.

year cheers mate
a thought you guys would act like this
but a dont want to get a 16valve a said before rgats to easy a want to make a fast 8 v cheers scotty
i.e. fast road cams
super chip
power boost valve
i may only get 8 mile to the gallon lol but who gives a toot

  The Beast MK4
Well if you insist. Get the exhaust sorted first, then a good IK second with forced induction. Then get a chip or remap. Leave the power boost valve, they are w**k. Take your back seats out, the weight reduction will improve acceleration.

Thats basic stuff without spending too much, anymore would be very silly on the 1.2 imo.

Ive stuck with my 1.2 for 3 & 1/2 years now and am now saving for a 172 which I hope to get early next year when im 21. Patience is the key my man!

When owning a 1.2 yes it is :rasp: :rasp: :rasp:

@Scotty

If you can buy a faster car, why don't you ??

If you can't but want your car to be quicker, taking away weight will be more effective than putting in power, because you won't get a lot.

Talk to ajketley, he has a 1.2 8v and has spent a fair bit on it, 78hp is what he's at.

Depends how much money you have you could do a lot but gains arn't going to be more than about 140hp or so unless you start spending a fortune on the bottom end bits.

Best thing is to sort the brake and handling out Custom Leda/Blistein/FK setps (Fk's will be chepest) with matching anti roll bars offset wheels. Then lightweight 4 pot calipers on stock disk maybe even smaller disk since stock ones are overkill realy and smaller one will mean leass weight.

^ have to go with edde on this one, you need to weight save, breather mods like a viper, de cat pipe and stealth system. Make it handle like its on rails with a coilover set up and remove rear seats - really makes a huge difference

Fully strip the ca of weight as well and depenfing how far you want to do get a Mk2 phase 1 looms so no UCH computer and a proper cable throttle.
You can loose about 200kg if you realy realy strip the car and that will make a huge different Ok it will cost say £250 as you'll need to take the old front seats out but it would help.

  172 cup'd extreme
cams- dbilas in germany can regrind them for €150 including return post
Decat - free up some power free (knock the internals out of yours)
exhaust manifold £250 from ktec replaces the crap cast iron one free up some power
exhaust system look at sound good

for all the money spent above you could have more power with a 1.2 16v lump

  Chocolate Bar™
i heard there wasnt much point in changing the manifold on the 1.2 (this was on the 16v however) as it was already designed the best way possible?

  None
Go for weight saving and suspension as above. You could get 90bhp odd out of it tuning it but it will cost alot. Im doing up my 1.2 8v for the fun of it but mines being done 'differently' lol

  renault clio (black 3dr)
year MAXX am going for the same affect (different)
people are saying get a de-cat is it worth the fart around for the mot at the end of the year i.e. how much power will you gain
cheers for all the replies guys keep em cumin

  Evo4, MITO, 172 TTV6
Yeh you will notice a difference, better throttle response, smoother, bit quicker, better sound! Worth the hassle - even though itll only take 20min!

What do you want out of your car? Do you have to take people around?

  renault clio (black 3dr)
wont take me 20 mins matey a wish it would but the cat on my car is attached to the front pipe which goes trhough the sump arghhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks though mate and yes a do caryy people round but mainly jus me and one pasenger with bikes as i race downhill mtb cheers scotty

  Motorbikes
loose the back seats, plastic interior trim will have to go too and rear seatbelts, plastic windows (cant rememebr the exact material, poly something lol), maybe remove some of the elctrical toys like electric windows etc? remove rear wheel, carpets etc

then a decent lowering kit, strut braces, decat exhaust, forced induction, high lift cams (is that right?), small wheels and low profile tyres and other stuff perhaps, probably still be easier to buy a 1.4 or 1.6 though lol

  renault clio (black 3dr)
hope you guys can help me arghhhhhh
a was take the rear strut bar out the one you have to take out to get to the torx bolts to take the rear seats out you no what i mean
and i tore the head off the nut, if i take the (strut bar out is this still leagle or does it help keep the chassis in order
cheers scotty

why do all this to a 1.2:S all the money your gonna spend on poinless performance mods you could buy a faster car

  Evo4, MITO, 172 TTV6
The whole idea in modding a 1.2 is to be different! Some of us really dont have a lot of money to spend on a faster car and insurance etc. Tuning a slow car makes it faster than most other 1.2s and wont cost an arm and leg! Most mods can be done bit by bit at a low cost. Its cheaper than tuning a faster car in some respects!!!! And again its just down to the idea of being different!

  Astra SRi T
ive got a 1.2 and i put an after market zorst and a k&n panel filter, but i dont know wot is trying to be acheived here?

  80MPG BEEZA
i had the 1.2 16v did the zorst and air filter- waste of money, its still slow! i went in my cousins 172 and s**t my pants so i dropped the 172 lump into mine and dont regret it what so ever if ur trying to make a slow car fast buy a fast car and make it faster you'll only end up regretting it because once you reace its limit you'll want more so you'll want a bigger car trust me

i knew the replys this guy was going to get as soon as i saw the thread title, typical!

what you want to do first mate is sort your suspension, brakes and lose weight. not sure if your talking about a MK1 or MK2 clio here but ill assume its a MK2...

Coilover suspension (or if this is out of your budget a good suspension kit such as the apex kit, thats dampers and springs, dont bother with just changing the springs) id get a front strut brace but wouldnt bother with a rear one, no point really

next up is brakes, now on the MK2 im sure the 8v has 139mm brake disks and dont think there vented so you want a big brake conversion, possibly use 16v brakes (159mm vented disks), if your doing that i would just go for standard vented disks and uprated pads, this is what ive got (EBC green stuff pads) and it works pretty well.

next lose all the weight you can, back seats, all the carpet, door cards, parcel shelf, spare wheel, tool kit, LOSE THE LOT! lol you could always go for light weight bucket seats and loose the electric windows if you have them.

get yourself a set of small 15" alloys if you dont already have them (plenty dynamique ones about that fit MK1 and MK2 clios) get yourself some good quality 50 profile tyres and it should hold the road brilliantly, i had 16" speedline turinis on mine for a week and am back to the 15s already as its a fukin go kart with them, handles brilliantly!

now its time for the engine mods, wouldnt go over board with these just a cat back exhaust, decat (or sports cat if your not hardcore!), a pannel filter in your standard airbox and play about with the cold air feed to get the coolest air possible into it! then possibly get it remaped to take the mods into account. and thats all id do (infact its all im doing/done with the engine untill i can afford a 1.6 16v conversion)

will be brilliant fun to drive, and will do ok against some bigger engine, faster cars on corners, mine keeps up with my mates Saxo VTR no problem on a good twisty road but he doesnt push his car quite as hard as i do with mine so...
