Clio 1,4rt engine questions





hi! Does my engine have a rev limiter and in that case at wich rev doese it kick in? And what is the best tuning for these engines the mods now are pipercross filtre in the filtrebox and a backbox 2,5"

Hope ur limiter doesnt kick in at 3k lol.

Cant remember on my old energy, think its about 5-5500?

Best mods for u sir, i would say were, exhaust, decat, filter, chip! (for now lol) or slap some nos on it...!
 


yeah definitely, i hit mine the other week, its set above 6k for sure, i;ve only hit it once and its about 6300 i think. Depends on how warm the engine is.
 


it varies on the ecu, early ph2 19s were at 7krpm, the later ones were 6500rpm.

And its not temperature related you can start iut and rag it right round to the limiter. Temp related limiters are a new thing on renaults, they have been on beemers for a while.

Headworks the best mod but it depends on what you want from the engine. The engines are safe for 8krpm if looked after and theres no dodgy bits inside.
 


the gauges are out, mine spins round to 7200rpm and bounces (the engien revs beyond this) the gauge should stop at 7. The older style rev counter would go beyond the last number like when you go off the clock on the speedo.
 


Chris, out of interest the 1.4S apparently came with the RSi gearbox.

Would this have had any effect on where the limiter kicks in, or simply that it would be reached quicker?

Also, I know you have a 19 energy, what do you think is a realisitic maxmium power output from this engine, with headwork, reprofiled cam, decat, exhaust and chip?

I wouldnt worry about hitting the limitor, as long as u dont sit there boucing off it for 10mins solid...
 


well i´ve driven mine to about 6,2k and it hasent kicked in so it is probebly set to 6300rpm or something like that.

Mine was set at 6850 was chiped though. Used to shoot flames and pop like a shot gun ...
 


the limiter is set by the ecu, the gearbox only changes the road speed in relation to the engine.

Maximum power, well money no object something daft like 1kbhp for all of 3 seconds.

But that work and running a standard TB, decent mapping over 100bhp if the works done properly.

6850, pah you should hear it scream to over 11krpm when you miss shift into 2nd at over 100 mph.

Limiter kicks in at between 6500-6750, but theres no point taking it to there, main powers around 4-5k, what little power there is anyway. I know mine sounds wicked when it hits the limiter, screams like f**k but there aint no power there!!
 


My 1.4 energy has no ECU or REV limiter as its carb driven. (Definately not recomended for heavy footed drivers)
