Clio 1.6 16v

  R27 LY
Hi ive got a Clio dci65 at the moment I am thinking of getting a Clio 1.6 16v what are like any faults to look out for. I am only 18 so cant get 172 or anything like that so the 1.6 seams the best possibility.

i got a 1.6 16v at 18 too fella. Erm theres no major faults that ive had in particular, so general obvious things imo. Check if the cambelts been changed depentan on mileage etc. What age & colour are you looking at?

ive got about 5k to spend so just a minter really would like a black one how quick are they?

^^No, 45hp makes no difference....
Good step up from a DCi mate, handling as well as power wise. MPG is good too, average 40 with mixed driving and 50 on the motorway at 70.

But a load less torque... HP isn't a very good way to compare petrol and diesel engines ;)

Autobiography?? ;)

Seriously though, the 1600 is a much better car IMO. Thicker ARB's, Stiffer suspension etc aswell as the extra power to boot.

I'd just remap the DCi. I fail to see the point in the 1.6's tbh. No performance, not frugal.... you may as well get a 1.4 for the difference and get cheaper insurance to boot.

you can definitley tell the difference between a 1.4 and 1.6. remapping a dci 65 isnt going to make much difference.

Sure there's a difference.... Are they like 15bhp more? Heavier? Worse on fuel? More expensive to insure? look identical?

  306 GTI-6
Mines not bad on fuel, get 40+mpg most of the time and on a recent 300 mile trip saw average of 49mpg. Although one of the ignition coils went on mine last night.

you can definitley tell the difference. The difference between the 1.2/4/6 is how quickly the power comes, they all go well above 4k but up to then if the diff imo. 15bhp more yeah

yeh in my 1.2 you have to keep the revs between 4000 and 5750ish to get the best out of it.

PMSL!!!The DCIs have the same suspension as the 1.6s anyway. Its only the 1.2s/non-dynamiques that don't have the sports suspension/ratio steering etc etc. If anything the DCI lump weighs more than the 1.6 anyway.

i know, but i was referring to a remapped dci as opposed to the dci80/100 compared with the 1.6 lol

All the dci have the thick ARB on them and some dci setups are even sportier (ie stiffer) than the 1.6 setups are much harder spring setup.

The engine weight is little different. Remap a 80dc and you'll be looking about 105hp and in both real life and on track will be as qucik or quicker than a 110hp 1.6
in comparison the the 1.6?

The 1.6 16V won't make any realy gains from a remap the dci will make huge gains 20hp ish from stock.

Learn something new everyday.
Out of the box the 1.6 is the better car.

I love mine (1.6). Its my first car and so was the only choice for me as i couldnt afford the insurance on a 1*2.

Its nippy enough, and always makes me laugh when the local chavs think its a 1.2 and that their 1.2s with induction kit and big exhaust will p*ss all over it.

I find it pretty good on petrol, handles well, and sounds ok even with the standard exhaust.

I have a 1.6 (had her from new and she's now 4 years old), and I love it! Apart from having to change 4 coils, 4 wheel bearings and 2 engine mounts ( all typical Renault problems), she has been a dream to drive. She has plenty of power when I need it and she doesn't have to be thrashed to get her to move. Pretty darn good on petrol and cheap to insure.

Go for it I say.

Yep, wouldn’t agree with you more m8. Had my 1.6 16V (first car @ 22years old) for the past year and a half, only problems was the gear box mount either than that she's running smoothly... Just keep servicing her regularly on her intervals (especially Belts when the time is right) and yeah you should be fine. Speed isn’t that bad as well, (or maybe its because i got the sport version... :rasp: ) and mine is a little bit heavy on gas i think due to the heaviness of my 17' alloy wheels.

But yeah man go get yo 1.6 16V, not a bad choice at all... ;)
