Clio 1.6 Mk3 poor acceleration

  Clio Mk3 1.6
Can anyone suggest a reason for my Clio 1.6 Initiale Mk3 (2006) having such poor acceleration?

The engine runs smoothly at all times, but at lows revs acceleration is almost non-existent – flooring the accelerator at 1000 revs in second gear has virtually no effect, which can be quite dangerous on junctions. Eventually the car will pick up speed, but it doesn’t seem to pull like it should at any engine speed.

0-60 takes 15 secs (should be 9.8), which seems to confirm something is wrong.

I’ve replaced the air filter, and the brakes aren’t binding.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Typhoon.

Whenever I've had a problem with plugs or coils in the past, it's always caused misfiring - could these still be the cultprit if the engine always runs smoothly?

Also, if the timing belt had slipped a notch, could this affect acceleration without causing uneven running? And can timing belt wear or incorrect tension alone affect acceleration? The belt has done 60,000m/8 years so I guess it's due for a change.

Thanks
