Clio 1.8 16V advice please

Been looking round for a sub-£2k Valver and to be honest…not got a clue what I’m doing at the moment as I’m not to sure on the history of them. Some questions if you don’t mind.

1) When were they built from-to? Any major differences or revisions depending on the year?

2) I’ve noticed many with the bonnet bulge but also quite a few 1.8s without it. Are the bulge-less ones still what would generally be called a valver (16V)? The few I’ve seen have been really tidy.

3) What were the standard alloys? Were they changed at all during its life? Links to pics would be helpful.

Cheers, it will be my 4th Clio and I realised I know next to nothing about the Valvers.

The non bulged ones are the RSI's (1.8 8v)

Turbines were on the Phase 1.... and Vegas on the Phase 2 (both Speedline)

Few modern touches on the phase 2 compared to the phase 1

Built from 1991 - 1996 I think? maybe 1992

Good engines on the 16v versions...just make sure you do regular oil changes and check level as they can use a fair bit of lube.

even mine does and its an 8V :(
insurance is a killer, would love a 16V clio!

Are both group 11? Thankfully I'm in the fortunate position of insurance being pretty reasonable now, 23 with 5 yrs ncb and I pay around £600 on the Cup, drops to about £260 on a Valver.

Is an RSi worth looking at then? Significant performance decrease or not too much different?

give lunner a PM m8, hes got an RSI....think there sumthin like 115bhp? could be wrong think the valver are 138bhp?

not 2 much diference tbh m8, theres no oil gauges in the RSI unlike the valver and theres more room in the engine bay, think these are the only majour diferences, i would go for the valver but it depends if your bothered about those extra 8valves and that extra bhp?......id keep a look out 4 a cheep hybrid as well m8 then your talkin even more power! :D

I would'nt touch a rsi or a 1.8 16v personally....I'm, used to 2.0s though. A good valver will keep you entertained but lacks real grunt
