Clio 1.8 16V

  Renault 5 GT Turbo
I know someone who owns one of these, and i'm guessing he is talking 100% rubbish.

It's the old shape one and he reckons its pushing out a good 170bhp AT THE WHEELS?

Thought i would quickly ask the people that know what there on about, and what would it take to get that kind of power, if at all possible.

  Clio 182
To get that kinda power you'd need tb's and a steel bottom end! No way a 16v would get anywhere near that kinda power on std inlet, he's talking b****cks lol

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
i think its 140 standard at either the fly or wheels... either way thats a minimum 30bhp increase and that would take some work...

cams, remap, zorst, headwork, etc...£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Haha, he gave me a list of all the stuck on tat that helped him get this amazing power.

Eco-tek valve (which does nothing as far as i'm aware)
Boost valve (what this does on a N/A engine i have no idea)
Superchip (so it overfuels now, good for a bit of bore wash)

I'm sure theres more items he's brought (or quoted out of Max Power). I think i should start a campaign to save this Clio (it is quite tidy) before it starts wearing big chrome wheels and jap style bumpers.

Alternatively punch him in the face, call him a tw!t and tell him to learn about cars!!! ;)

  car? need a license 1st!
valvers have 137bhp as standard iirc.

No doubt this will have dropped in your mates car, with time and wear and that.

You're prolly looking at about 125/130 brake out of your mates car as standard.

Superchips do f**k all apart from mess your fuel mix up.

A boost valve shouldn't make a difference on a N/A car. (i could be wrong here tho).

Tell you mate to get a life.. and leave the car as it is :p they're better standard anyways.

transmission loss is something around the 20% mark IIRC therefore to obtain 170bhp at the wheels it'd need to be running over the 200bhp mark at the fly, it'd need to be pretty near race spec to make that sorta power being nornally aspirated, or have a bloody great turbo strapped onto it!

give him a good kicking, id guess that his car maybe kicking out 140bhp max at the fly with those mods, which is around 112bhp at the wheels.

I only know of one valver still runing the 1.8 bottom end NA that is running that kinda power! He's on here and for the life of me cant remember what his username is.

Standard power is 137 at the fly.

for 180 its going to need cams, remap, exhaust, head work, 2ltr bottom end

a boost valve will do nothing for an NA car as there is no turbo so so boost to adjust!

however a powerboost valve may give him some added extras, but possibly only 2bhp

Ecotec is a F**king waste of time - 0bhp

Superchip will possibly give him some added extras but they aint a worthy mod, mine is being removed soon.

The most he is running is about 139 - - - bearing in mind the age of the car so its possibly lost some bhp in its age.

And by the time you work out transmission losses its bout 115bhp

Tell him spoken figures mean nothing to you, and that you want to see a rolling road print out and watch his penis shrivel! LOL!

for the record i got my 5 gt turbo to 180bhp after alot of hard work and money and a £1000 turbo.

No one runs that power on a 1.8 ...Craig aka Adams_16v has a 2.0 valver with 216bhp
