Clio 1.8 > 2.0

Hello everyone

Just wondering if any one can help me with my question please: what do i need to do or buy to fit a 2.0ltr into a 1.8ltr clio

Also does any one know how difficult and where to buy a turbo kit for either the 2.0ltr or 1.8ltr

well you can look for a williams engine which will fit pretty much straight in dont know about the advantages of keeping the valver box but the willy one is stronger

or you can buy a early megane bottom end and fit to the 1.8 head best done with cams and headwork

bb tuning is the people u need to spk to about a turbo, nick read on this forum is getting the high boost conv done right now

if ur gonna go for the turbo i would go for the high boost conv which is defo gonna be reliable (i think) but is big money around 6000-7000

turbos imho just dont work on a 16v unless its completely rebuilt

getting a willy engine is the cheaper option but there a bit rare, u prob wont get a lot more power but the willy engine produces a lot more torque and with tuning will be a lot better than the 1.8

the megane bottom end wiv headwork and cams ur looking at over 130 bhp @wheels

GMC do a lot of supercharging on saxos e.t.c but space is very very tight in a 16v engine bay id prefer supercharging over a turbo on standard internals though as the stresses are less, but ur still looking at a few thousand

There are only about 1200 Williams in the UK, so your best bet is to look for an early 2.0 Megane engine, because its the same engine and there are more 2.0 Meganes about. Be careful though, because they stopped using the F7R 150bhp 2.0 in the Megane after a while, and started using the 140bhp 2.0 from the Laguna - its not an F-series engine (16v = F7P, Willy/early Megane = F7R) and doesnt make any more power than the 16vs 1.8.

The reason the 2.0 is really the upgrade to do to the Clio 16v is not that the 2.0 makes a lot more power (only 13bhp @ fywheel), but becuase it has 85% of its torque at 3000rpm - whereas in the Clio 16v you redline it all the time!

Its a bit of a hit and miss game as well - some standard 2.0 F7R engined cars make up to 140bhp at the wheels, whereas some only make a lot less. The 2.0 isnt any easier to tune either: it has the same inlet manifold and head as the regular 1.8 F7P.

For your turbo questions, best to see http://www.bbperformancetuning.co.ukwww.bbperformancetuning.co.uk. Thats the only forced induction conversion that seems to be going down well - theres no popular or tested supercharger conversion that I know of.

williams head has 32mm inlet valves, 16v and megan have 30mm, not essential for massive power but depending how far you go it could restrict the engine

This has been discussed at great length elsewhere, have you done a search of the forum Matt? Anyway basically the hardest part if finding the 2.0 bottom end. If you can find one youre in business.

Supercharging a 16v or Willy is just not feasible, theres simply no room to run a belt to a blower, unless you lose your power steering or something like that. Maybe someone out there has done it but I cant see how.
