Clio 16V power down HELP





my clio has 25k miles, serviced very regularly, mongoose straight through exhaust and de-cat pipe, hill power stage 1 chip and piperX induction kit with a very effective heat shield. i had it RR in stockport and was told 144bhp at the fly. they gave me a graph with no labelled axis, they just told me it was 144bhp. since then i have had my oil changed and timing and fan belt changed. took it on RR in urmston yesterday and my first run was 129bhp, then 134bhp then 132 bhp. these are at the fly figures. but this time it was on a computer with results printed out etc. seemed very proffesional. anyway, i came away thinking the guy is chatting sh*t and his rollers must not have been v.accurate. spoke to some people today and everyone i spoke to said the urmston RR is one of the most accurate in england.

what could cause the power on my clio to fall so much? could the timing be wrong after the cam-belt change?(the guys who did this are very VERY good mechanics) or something else? after thinking about this for a while i think i am gonna get the stage 2 conversion at BB and they will hopefully set my car up and get rid of this power loss. or will they? any help is much appreciated. been told it could be lots of things causing this power loss but the car runs very well and my power line is very smooth with no flat spots,. HELP..........

id say cos of the low miles but ur car is quick so i dont know, but ur car shud be quicker than wot it is urs has a chip an smaller rims over mine, it might jus need a good caning to loosen it up

could be due to the cam timing but i doubt its wud be far out ud tell

id say mine prob has round about 120 ish now with the zorst an de-cat on urs is no way 10bhp at the wheels down on mine though

id put mine on the same rollers jus to see but theres not much point cos the 2.0 is goin in nxt week
 


nxt week? i will pay for a power run if you put it on adi, i would really like to know. suppose we can compare a bit more on saturday, with the ap-22 and that. The plac is in urmston, about 20min from trafford centre
 


just been out with adis AP-22, best 0-60 time of 7.50sec, but three times out of around ten runs i managed exactly 7.69sec. only one go at 0-100 and that was 18.2x. does this seem right for my mods? this was using standard air box and filter not piperX

IMHO Youve not lost any power, youre just measuring it with a different set of rollers. Dont worry about it. Id be bloody surprised if you came away with the *same*results from two different RRs!

u been havin fun then he he 7.5 isnt bad my best is 7.7 in the wet have u been having probs getin the power down most of my efforts went up in mad wheelspin that 7.7 was usin only 1/2 throtle for most of first gear and not a mad launch either but i reckon im not gonna get under 7.3 ish in the dry

only did one 0-100 and that was about 20 secs so urs is better by a bit but mine was on the lancs and some was uphill

did u not do a quarter mile my best was 16.3 at 85mph and the 0-60 was 8 sec on that so i can do better

ive not really had chance to test it fully for weather an knacked box cos after 2 or 3 runs it gets hard to change gear

think a run on the rollers mite finish my box off its really noisy now
 


getting power down hasnt been a MAJOR problem, i let the clutch off gently at around 4k. i reckon once i start pissing about with the air box i might do a bit better cos its REALLY restrictive at high revs.

cant do quarter miles yet cos its too dark to see the screen!

7.5 isnt bad but thats in the dry!! gonna try and get my piperX on 2moro to put an end to this whole Air box/induction kit argument once and for all.

also i found shifting at 7500rpm is best, shifting at 6500 is really sh*t and 7000 isnty much better. gonna go for a couple more runs now!!

the reaction timer on the quarter mile setting doesnt get added on to the final time so just set it an make sure it ses ready before you go for it

even so 7.5 isnt bad at least u know thers nuthin wrong with it an u could prob do better than that, u should of wrote the the individual 10mph times down on ur runs an u could hav compared to mine

if the ap22 is caliberated right there nothing wrong with ur car mate. ur getting worried over 10 bhp difference which is nothing when u consider different roller accuracies and air temp and all the other things that affect car performance

ur times are really good. are u running on std air box. i find after numerous test that a std airbox makes the car less boggy. faster off the line and in genral better top end. when i was running std airbox last week i did 140.136 .133 5 up then other night it struggled to get to 128 4 up with ind kit. only thing it does for me is make a wicked noise. performance gains are not to be had

stop being paranoid and drive it like u stole it lol



gotta get myself on of these ap22 thimgs though. sounds like lots and lots of fun

ok boys, after the latest results.....(drum-roll)

0-10; 0.99sec

0-20; 2.00sec

0-30; 3.04

0-40; 4.30

0-50; 5.77

0-60; 7.45

woo hoo, got another 0-100 of 19.02. had to stop though cos my clutch was slipping on take offs:cry:. i caned it around so engine would warm up then put 8 pounds of optimax in when it was near enuff empty, caned it more to get the optimax flowing and got my pb time
 


BTW i get the feeling people dont get the point of the post. im not comparing the two RRs, im going off the latest one, it is showing my clio to be producing less than 137bhp(standard) when it should be 5-7 over. just wondering what peoples views were

yeh thats about rite mine did

0-10 0.98

0-20 2.19

0-30 3.26

0-40 4.80

0-50 6.20

0-60 7.79

my times are lower to 40 my 0-40 4.80 clean- 4.30 this due to not bein able to get full throttle in first as it was wet but 40-60 was about the same mine- 2.99 clean- 3.15
