Clio 172 advice

Hi to everyone, im Dean and from Edinburgh.

I am relatively new on here, done a lot of watching and no talking so thought it was about time.

I am looking at phase 1 172's at current to use as my nurburgring toy in May. I have found one i am really interested in but i dont know much about clio's. What should i watch out for and when do belts etc normally need replaced? The 1 i am looking at just now is a standard 2000 silver phase 1 with FSH and only 61k on the clock.

Also what mods would you recommend for it? I am looking to spend around £500 on changes. I was looking along the lines of Toyo's all round, ferrodo ds2500 pads, from reading you guys highly rate the eibach sportlines springs. Anything else i have missed that could make the set up of the car better?

Any comments will be very appreciated.

Belts should be changed every 70,000 miles / 5 years IIRC (whichever comes sooner).
Make sure it's not suffering from any of the common problems (do a search and scan through a few threads to find out exactly what).

For £500 I'd say uprated disks, pads and braided lines along with some decent brake fluid. Coilovers aren't needed but will make for a better track toy if you can afford them.
If it's only going to be used on track you might as well strip it out for "free bhp", since you can't really get any worthwhile power gains for £500. In all honesty you don't need more power to have fun.

Cheers for the comment mate.

so with a drive to germany in store in May belts should ideally be changed before i go. Pricey on a 172?

I was hoping to keep the standard discs on with the ferrodo ds2500's and change the brake fluid to 5.1. Braided hoses would be a good shout though!

What about filters? do they make any noticible difference or not worth while?
