Clio 172 track car

  Clio 172 cup
Hi folks I have recently bought a 2002 Clio 172 cup, this has been stripped out and fitted with Perspex windows, it's a new track car for me but Im quite disappointed with the performance( fed up of corsa redtops gan round the outside up the straights!) Its running standard f4r736 engine, when driving it there's no "vtec pull"? There's no noise or play in dephaser pulley and cam timing has been checked using locking pin and camshaft plate? Any ideas?.. Also does anyone have or know of any updated/performance parts for sale? Camshafts, cylinder heads, lsd diff or any go faster parts I could buy? Thanks

Just make sure you're fast enough in the bends for the lack of straight line performance not to matter.

Not worry about it as it's a track car for track days which are non competitive and racing is forbidden.

On a more helpful note. It's the usual engine tuning route. Cams and throttle bodies. Heads aren't massively responsive to porting but gains can be had. You can go the whole hog if you have the wallet and get a properly built race engine. A turbo conversion is your best bet for a fast car but is still expensive.

There is no cheap route to getting more power from Clios. Your car has been made lighter which is the usual route.

Bean cans with big engines will always have an edge on the straight so you use the Clios stiffer shell and driver skills to make up the time elsewhere.

Go on youtube and have a look at some of the vids of 1*2 going round the ring in Germany, it really isn't about straight line performance, there will always be someone quicker down the straight, well most of the time, but look at the way they catch M3's and 335D through the twisty bits, I think one is evening running with a 911 GT2, if your after more power mate your p!ssing up the wrong tree, you are talking Turbo and mucho money, easier to buy something else....
