Clio 182 alarm problems?

  Black/Gold 182
Hi, I'm a newbie on here. I have a Clio 182 that I bought new this year. I have a problem where often, when I lock the car (from the remote), the alarm beeps 3 times. Other times it doesn't. There's no mention of it giving 3 beeps in the user manual (there is a mention of 4 beeps, but not 3).

The dealer (who are useless by the way) said I was "probably pressing the button too quickly". Muppets. I also tried Renault Customer Services and Cobra alarms but neither could help (Renault Customer Services don't even answer emails).

I'm concerned the alarm isn't arming properly but don't know for sure and don't why I sometimes get 3 beeps and sometimes not.

The alarm is described as a “Renault Compact 7897” in the installation certificate.

Anyone else had this or have any ideas?

Thanks! It's nice to know it's not just me. My dealer (Driveline Canterbury) are just useless.

Case in point, I asked about a "clonking" noise just after pulling away. After 2 visits, they finally admitted they could hear it too, said it needed striping down to check. So they have the car for 4 days, strip it all down and then say "oh, it's normal. It's the ABS pump". Hardly confidence inspiring.

Shame such a fun car as the 182 is let down by such poor dealers.

Thanks again anyway.

Sorry to hear you are not having the best dealer experience. Welcome to the club though - the joy the car brings you is worth the hassle.

The alarm bleeping thing is fairly common. I've noticed it maybe 4 times in the 9 months I've had my car - more commonly in the first month - so perhaps you do just get used to leaving it a tad later before hitting the remote.

I've also had a problem where the alarm just goes off when you open the door, regardless of the fact you just unlocked it with the remote. I think this was just me opening the door a tad too qucikly though - now I unlock it about 30 steps away LOL.

To be honest mate if the only glitches you ever get are with your alarm then you've got a goodun. There are dozens of known issues that sadly dont seem to have been ironed out in later models at all...including the Trophy. The best you can hope is to find a good dealer and get settled in for the long haul. IMHO the car is so much fun to drive, that you can forgive it a few problems, and if you can strike up a relationship with a good local dealer then you shouldnt ever have too much trouble :approve:

yikes - are you going back there then in the future? - I worked it out myself after about four days (and help from the forum...) - but I didn't strip it down!!:banghead:

Sadly, I think I really have to blame Renault UK for not training their dealers enough on the RS models. It's been mentioned before that they could provide specialist RS service centres.

I'd really like to see this happen. If it doesnt, and it wont, then I cant see myself buying another RS Renault, which is a shame since they are sublime driving tools :(

Renault UK - please please please start giving your dealers more information about your RS models. Specifically, feed them info about known problems which you (and we) all know about, but which your dealers seem cut out of the loop. Classic example being the temperature sensor wiring problem - we know about, you know about it...why dont ALL your dealers know about it?

As has been said above, crying shame that such superb cars are let down so badly.

Roy,

Sadly the alarm is just the latest problem. On mine it's beeps pretty much everytime, unless I get stuff out the boot first! Still, next service they can have another go. Faults to date include:

1. misaligned tracking
2. scratches on paint
3. loose interior trim
4. rattling dash
5. alarm

Whilst these were being done in one of the 4 returns to the dealer they left it with a big lump of bird sh*te on the bonnet which marked the clearcoat, so that had to be machine polished out.

Since the had it last time I noticed the fuel gauge no longer seems to tie up with the trip computer. E.g. right now I've done 200 miles and I've got a quarter of a tank left (on the gauge), but the trip computer says I've got 130 miles left. Knowing the dealer they'll say first they couldn't find a problem and then say it' normal.

Drac182, if I could find somewhere else to take it I would (as long as I don't invalidate the warranty)!

^^ to be fair mate, the fuel gauge is tripe. It goes from full to 3/4 in about 30 yards, then stays at half full for about a thosuand miles and then drops to 1/3, where you can actrually normally get about 100+ miles from it.

:) hope you're right. Weird that it's only just happened since the dash was replaced. I assumed the dealer had banged it or something.

Plan to try and run it dry (ish) and see how many miles I really get.

Glad I happened upon this forum

As a few people have mentioned its certainly worth making sure you lock it at least a few seconds after shutting the door and vise versa. I was setting my alarm off frequently until I realised I was being too quick, after talking to a few guys from here at RWS it seemed pretty common.

I know thats not directly related to your problem but its worth taking in!

Mine is now doing this 3 beeps thing. Will go to the dealer Thursday and see what they say. Id put my money on "its normal sir" :)

Is is a 'feature' but there IS a fix for it. Given Renaults comic inabilty to have any kind of reliable fault logging system though, it's fair to say your dealer will probably have no clue.

This thread is REALLY helpful, thanks. I picked up my Trophy on Saturday and almost every time I've just parked, jumped out and set the alarm with the key, it has gone off 30 seconds later. I'm going out now to try it if I leave it a while before turning on the alarm. Thanks for the tip !

Thank you thank you thank you!

I thought I was the only one with this issue! I originally thought that the alarm on my 182 was not arming properly if it didn't beep.

Sometimes it beeps and others time nothing?!

I now know why......thanks to this thread!

It got to the point where I was trying different things when activating the alarm, jumping out quick and turning it on, leaving the car to idle for longer than 1 minute etc
(I leave mine to idle for a minute or two after every drive, especially if I have driven her hard!)

To be honest, I quite like the beeps and don't think I will mention it to Renualt when I put it in for its first service as afraid they may do more harm than good!
