Clio 182 limp mode squiggly dash line high idle

Today I started my car to move it and I was greeted with a 2k idle which I thought a bit odd. I left it idling for about 3 minutes as I usually do to warm it a bit before I moved it.

The idle remained high but it had to move so I set off down the road. The car felt a bit strange and as soon as it touched about 3k it went powerless and I presume into limp mode, and a light with a squiggly line like a heartrate came on the dashboard.

The car has just had a new cat and midpipe which were fitted by a specialist and no other symptoms ever before or anything.

We did have a s**t load of rain the other day and the car *had* to go out in it which I do hate doing might I add, but I went through puddles slowly and carefully as I always do.

I've just come in from work and fired her up to have a slightly high 1.5k idle but car seemed happy again. Took it up the road and no limp mode, revs freely right up to the top and feels like it always had. Pull over and still idling a touch high and when I get home idling fine and just seeming normal. Revved it on my drive and it was spot on and no lights no nothing. Switched it off and back on and fine again? What's wrong with it?

Could water have got on something the few days before? The rain was mega here!!

Sounds like a naff throttle position sensor.
If you live near anyone with Clip though, get it plugged in before you spend any money though.

Does it? How much does that cost? Will a standard garage be able go diagnose that?

Throttle bodies are £30 ish second hand and pedals are under £20. Certainly not the end if the world but as I said, I'd get it properly diagnosed before you fork out any money.

Ah right okay, I don't know anybody with clip though being the only thing so it's all fairly easily sorted then?

Would the thing the garage uses be able to diagnose it then or? Must it be clip?

There is a large white connector plug in the fuse box next to the battery. The pins get corrosion and can cause limp mode. A bit of sand paper and wd on them may solve your problem

Can i take this out without worrying about the battery or whatever and would this cause the high idle?

Yes & yes however good practice would recommend you disconnect the battery

Just to update this the garage have had it a couple of days and the car is behaving beautifully apparently "sweet as a nut" the exact terminology.

What the f**k do I do now? The car with them is idling exactly and their diagnostic machine is showing zero faults!

I have asked them to whip out and clean that white plug whether they have or not, I don't have a clue.

Will the car now be okay do we think or is it possible it could've been something that got really wet inside it or?

If it's suddenly working fine again, then it's definitely something water related.

The white plug in the fuse box is the best place to start.

So inadvertently I met up with a load of mates and somebody had clip. They plugged my car in and it had absolutely xerox fault codes with anything at all which he found amusing and said was pretty rare!

From this I'd now assume, that it had to have been water or something that had done it. I did get that big white plug out in the fuse box and clean it up a bit. Not quite sure that fixed it though.

Yea got that symbol today mate, not sure if its after I cleaned my bay the other day as I used my detailing spray for parts, obviously only light mists of spray but maybe it got in somewhere.

I'll give the white plug a clean tmw mate.

An automatic car wash (I'm lazy and car is already scratched to hell) causes this every single time for me. Leave it an hour or so to dry and it is fine.
