Clio 182 Mileage - Correct it or leave it

Back in the days of December 2004, i had a little issue with the Clio 182 & the cruise control.

The cruise control would be selected to 70mph, though the speedo would read closer to 80mph. Not very good.

I spoke to renault about this, they took the car in and fixed the fault. They replaced the Instrument Cluster, the car mileage at the time was 12,800miles.

When i received the car back, the speedo was back at 0 miles. Therefore the speedo under reads by 12,800miles.

So, when i come to sell / p/x the car, the mileage is out. The car has been serviced to its limits, ie a 24k service when a 24k service is needed, but the speedo reads 12k.

So far, all the services have been done to date, and on the right mileage.

When i come to sell the car or p/x it in. The mileage is a little bit of a worrier for people.

Now, would it be better for me to have the mileage corrected by these firms that you see in the back of autotrader, or leave the mileage as it is.

As ive been in to p/x it, and tell them dealer about it, they struggle to find another dealer to take it off them at a good price due to the mileage thing. Not an issue, and renault should not punish me for this, but they do.

Or, would you simlpy not declare the extra mileage when going for the p/x, the speedo change is documented in the service book and there to see.?

I would have made Renault get the dials amended as and when they did the fix to be honest, this is something I had to do myself and it cost £130.

My car has the same issue, the panel was changed way back before I owned it.

It's documented, but what's stopping the next owner from destroying the paper work and selling on 14,000 miles less on the clock.

I may decide to get mine re-clocked. How much does it cost?

Cant get renault to do it now, as the car is well out of warranty, and if i did it would make all the services messed up.

Its more the problem with selling and p/x'ing the car on. When i mention mileage issues, they all seem to shudder and offer a really sh*t price.

Im unsure how much mileage correction costs, but i think its about £200 or so.

when i bought my first 172 the speedo had been changed after 17800 miles - was fully docuemtned and tbh i didnt care at all - didnt put me off one bit

I'd have it done, anything which can cause doubt in someones mind when buying the car is a bad thing.

Would have thought could do it for less than £200, so many places advertise digital mileage correction in the back of the autotrader

Thinking about it, I'm not going to bother fixing it.

It's in my service book, documented the speedo was changed at 14,000. If I fix the problem, it'll look like ANOTHER 14,000 needs adding to the new millage.

Is your's documented AliasOmega?

Edit - I see it was documented on yours.

I would just take it in, and tell them the REAL millage, just don't mention what the clocks say etc.

My 182 cruise control does this, but not by 10mph.
If i set it to 38mph, it actually reads 40mph on the dash.
Due to the incosistent readings you get from a speedo, I'm not sure which is actually right! Wasnt aware it was a bit of a common problem. Mines out of warranty and it doenst bother me that much, so I'll leave mine!

I had my instrument panel replaced in late Novemebr last year. The issue wasn't cruise control related - but with the ESP system. You couldn't tell if it was on or off.

Naturally, the mileage went back to zero and I got paperwork from Reno Manchester to say what work had been done - complete with the date.

Tbh, if I was buying a car 2nd hand with that kind of documentation, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Though I do think if its done under warranty (as mine was) - Reno should set the mileage on the new display to what it was on the old one. It would stop issues such as these.

Its just annoying, as you mention mileage issues, and people tend not to be interested, offer a lower p/x value.

Its different on a p/x, i tell them what the mileage is, and they read the clocks then cant add it up till i explain.

Would you correct them on the mistake, or just let it go.

why did they not correct your reading to show the right amount of miles my mate had the same thing and renault canterbury had no prob they just need the system which being a main ren dealer i would hope they could do it.

could understand if it was a scummy back street garage but a car with warranty going back to the main dealer then getting fobbed off with a peace of paper and not making the car how it should be

When you get your car back from a main dealer your ment to have it fully fixed like you would of never of known it had ever had a fault

not get fucked over with a peace of paper and a incorrect reading to look at everyday which could make it harder to sell

This happened to Darren S and they documented the car stating that it had new clocks etc. Renault should have done this. Get on to them
