Hi all just got the dreaded call after my mot I need two front brake calipers £400 each from renault aghhhhhhhhhhhh
anyone know where I can purchase these cheaper that seems ridiculous thanks I have searched google but no luck

Surely its worth getting it re-MOT'd at a Renault garage for the sake of £40, in case the garage is on a wind up.

I wouldn't expect a 07 vehicle to need calipers tbh... I would imagine you can get the Brembo's refurbed anyway (tell me if I'm wrong).

Unless the caliper body is damaged (extremely unlikely) you can rebuild them, sounds suspicious to me their statement though.

It was a private garage they rang me to say break pads need replacing so I said do the work then they rang back saying calipers need replacing I think it sounded a little odd it's only done 33k miles too. Well looked after might take it else were for an mot then

Calipers almost certainly won't need changing.

Get on the phone and ask exactly what's wrong with them. Ask for pictures..

A) CBA to unsieze them
B) tried to unsieze them and fucked them.

Go have a look at the calipers?

This, it'll be the pins are fucked and the calipers just need cleaned up, and new pins put in!

All sounds a little odd they feel normal and work fine to drive

F888king jokers... just goes to show that you never can trust a garage... worth shopping around in my opinion... kinda like finding a bird... when you find a good one that doesn't try to shaft you in the arse hold onto them tight and never let go... if the garage goes bust... buy the garage and keep the staff on your books... a good garage is hard to find...

But joking aside.... report the dirty w@nkers to VOSA, name and shame them here and also give trading standards a call... if you feeling really vengeful... a dog turd through the door would not go amiss.... but i did not just incite mindless vandalism mr officer, this was intended as a joke :rasp:

Actually its the most common problem there is on 197/200/225 etc, inner pads always seize in the caliper

Nope, just need to take them apart and clean it all up and free the pads of the caliper and jobs a good un, only problem that someone is likely to encounter is the dam pins that hold the pads in, the sieze in solid if not maintained. Then its a case of new pins as you have to cut the old ones out!

As stated report them to VOSA as they run stuff like that in England (system in NI is very different) and you may also consider the police as is sounds like an attempted fraud to be honest.
