Clio 220 Trophy

Since the 200T was such a turd I don't think there's been much interest in the Trophy version.
There's so much excellent competition in the market at the moment that an average hot-hatch just doesn't stand a chance.

"A turd" wouldn't be a great way to describe the 200t. Typical response of someone who has just read reviews and not driven one.

If it were me looking at the trophy, id wait for a used one to come up for sale, as they are very expensive, particularly if you want the best spec. However the trophy has had good 'reviews' on a whole, compared to the base model. However I love mine so the reviews are meaningless too me, depends if your happy to order one without test driving it first.

I looked into ordering one, but was told not to expect a test drive as dealers won't be getting them as demo cars and they'll be built to order.

Definitely get the heated optional seats!

Evo summed it up a little this month. Was suited more to track it seems.

Typical response of someone who owns one and wishes they bought the FST instead :tongueout::tongueout::tongueout::tongueout::tongueout:

Just ordered mine..same as the dealers car i drove Artic white 220 Trophy with the black leather...oh and some dealers do have a car..try Tarj at Masters of Beckenham..really helpful, but they are supposed to be telling anyone they have one or the Megane Trophy because limited stock.Apparently only being stocked at specialists centres.

The biggest problem is it's legacy. If it was a Kia Cee'd it would have rave reviews.

The Trophy is a decent improvement over the 200t, but as detailed in Gally's post, It lacks charisma.

I've been toying with a newer hot Clio, but my 197 Cup is just so good and engaging to drive it seems the new 200T's are altogether different.

Watching a 200 vs 200t review on YouTube atm (because sad as f**k)

Mid way through, the gf chirps up 'is that the new one?!'

Me '...the yellow one? Yeah'

Her 'Eww that's horrid!'

Me 'Lol! I thought you've seen one before?'

Her 'Yeah but you can't tell its a renaultsport, can you?'

Lol

If they are being made in limited numbers, would it be a good investment like the 182 Trophy?

Or the megane 225 trophy, or the megane 265 trophy.

I think the 220 trophy will fall under the 'not a proper trophy' category.

That is, it's not special enough to be desirable.

...like the r27, the only thing that differentiates it from a regular 197 is that LY was available.

Megane Cup will hold value in 10 years I reckon, simply due to demand when they fall into track day budget but none of the others will.

Funny that sold the pro_ceed GT about a month ago because it was so bland and lacked charisma...each to their own, but at least i have driven it and not just speculated on it.

Shirley the r26 will be the only one which will command some sort of premium because lsd?

That said, I've seen some go for £4ish k lately! Very cheap

Sat in one at RWS (unfortunately no test drives) was lovely inside, that's about all I can say lol. Exterior way they're warming on me a little bit but it's still no looker really.Girlfriend preferred the new Twingo!

They're not limited numbers though, so supply will dictate the prices. Would be very surprised if they held their value over any other Megane.

I agree, people who are criticising are using other peoples opinions. Go and test yourself. The engine is brilliant and the handling has not been is good so it all comes down to the gearbox.
Sooooo it's quicker than a manual BUT if you are in auto and use the manual override it can get a little confused.
I watched Fifth Gear doing their autotest with the Clio and the clio came last HOWEVER it took then 5 minutes to get going which was rubbish as it's possible to push the start button and put the seatbelt on at the same time. Then wack it into sport and go, job done.

220T, FST, 208 gti 30th, and the latest VXR with diff, Recaro and Brembo upgrade... If you are in the new market then its defo interesting times. Get them all driven and make your own mind up.
