Clio 44Turbo

My dad and his m8s have been throwing around ideas for a mental track car to build.
One of the ideas was a 300bhp+ 4x4 clio.

So has any 1 tried or even conciderd some thing so crazy?
And does any 1 have any ideas on drive trains that could possibly be used?

P.S They where lookin at 206rallycar 4x4 system just as an idea.:approve:

why waist money on a clio? just use a 206. A Clio corners quickly on tarmac because it c***s its rear wheel, with a 4wd system it wouldnt allow this and u will just get complete understeer. Use a new mini, the chassis is alot better at keeping all 4 wheels on the ground.

How rich is your Dad? Because the box, diffs and control system for that 4x4 WRC setup is deep into 5 figures with a 2 at the front.

Could use a Super 1600 XTrac setup but then they aren't really designed for circa 300ftlbs of torque which would tend to go hand in hand with a 2 litre lump making 300bhp.

Scooby running gear with a scooby lump for power would be the easiest. Cosworth 4x4 also a possibility. Doing it with a transverse engine package is more tricky.

Not entirely sure why you'd want AWD in a track car either, very few situations where it would be advantageous and you need to add weight in other areas to deal with the extra weight it adds. Brilliant for a rally car, questionable for a track car.

Cheers

  Mk4 XR3i 90 - spec
audi TT...
V6 4motion golf...
a3 quattro...

a few vag cars use transverse and 4wd. some with big power. and relatively cheap too.

someone put an evo lump and running gear in a mk1.

i remember that, was a white one with a masshooosive spoiler :nono:

worth searching matt black or not normal developments. Had a TT engine in a ph1 clio, which then turned into a ph2 lookalike ;) you might see some clips on youtube.. it started as an orange beast, but now its mattblack colour

  ValverInBits
4x4 kangoo with a clio shell dropped ontop :D

gearbox is made of cake and icing.
Renault gearboxes are not built for big turbos.

I'd say your dreaming with a WRC 4x4 206 setup tbh. A vag setup is a good idea.
I have to say though, i'd put money on it never being completed. 4WD system would be such a farking ball ache.

get a 4x4 running audi or vag or even a scoobie cut the shell off the top!
then cut up a clio ph1/2 and then plonk them together!

Thanks for all the comments.
But they decided to go with another idea after seen an Audi tt with 2 engines and 4wheel drive. So they want a Scooby or R34 with 2 engines and 800+bhp.

P.S Icarus $$ isn’t that much of a problem there’s 5 of them an they waist lots of money on even stupider things (like going to Australia for 7 days to have there picture taken holding a Koala bear just for a £50 bet). Plus you would be amazed at what they can make/fabricate to get stuff working so £0 labour costs an labours always half the cost
:(

cheers though guys :) and Sevo how well does a RWD 172 handle?

The RB26 from an R34 can make 1000bhp+ on its own. 2 engines in a track car is stupid. I think the concept you're trying to acheive is ridiculous. Power is nothing without control ;)

  Some of a Clio 1.8 16v
I might've got completely the wrong end of the stick here but is there actually an concept here or are you just throwing words around that you like the sound of, 4x4, 300bhp and so on. It doesn't sound like the knowledgable start of a project just a bit of pub or playground banter.

Unless i'm missing something twin engining a scooby or an R34 would be INSANELY difficult as they're both longditudinaly mounted engines and you'd end up with the second engine on top of the first engines gearbox!

An Evo might be possible though i guess although there's so little point as they're already 4x4 and have fairly boundless power without the extra weight of another engine and box onboard.

Well unless they can fabricate pneumatically actuated 6 speed sequential four wheel drive gearboxes then a box on its own is going to cost them north of £25,000, then 5 grand a diff, ECU and Transmission control capable of running it all properly is around £8000 + the cost of the engineering work to write the strategies required to make it work. Drive shafts would be two grand a set, uprights another 2 grand and neither of those include engineering work.

To do it with pukka 206 WRC bits is going to cost 100K plus just in bits if they design everything themselves and don't need to farm that out.

If you're going to spend that sort of money just ring ProDrive and for 40K you can have a N14 Group N Impreza STI with all the right bits for tarmac rallying. Buy two and find some good country lanes.

Cheers

ha-ha, as stated my dad an his m8s are just crackers, (the 1st car they ever did was a ford escort van with 911 engine in it. handled well till its crashed into a tree down the lanes) I did say that they where just "throwing around ideas for a mental track car to build" and any thing out side the bound of reality wldnt never happen of course.
They’ll probly just get some thing like a GT2 and paint it PINK with gold stars or sum thing like that though.

I like the idea of the group N Impreza STI but is it road legal? And im not paying more than £2000 for insurance ever again unless its Red and Starts with F, plus they wld probly want like £10k to insure it though. If i ever spent tha much on a car id wana drive it every day and not shell out the price of ford focus to insure it

:)

  Exige S1 + Honda S1
very much possible, I have been in a 206 with full subaru 4x4 running gear.

the type of car you start off with is irrelevant as it will be so far chopped up into bits it could be anything.

tell them to get cracking and post pics.

theres a 106 wit a cossie lump and running gear ill try and find it now
