clio holding back when cold

  clio 172 cup
Hi my 172cup has a problem when starting from cold, it seems to hold back n be very jerky under acceleration. Ive read threads on here n the likely cause is the tdc sensor, which im thinking of replacing with the new style sensor that is for sale on ebay, dunno if any of you have seen it, but apparently this sensor is the new style and renault have changed this. Just wondered what your thoughts were. Thanks

if i wer to boot it from cold then ud probs hardly notice it but obv i take it easy from cold, revs between 1500-3000rpm n its like runnin on kangaroo juice til it clears

yeah it's a 169 bhp 2.0 litre engine.

takes about 20 minutes to warm up at least mate. if it's absolutely undriveable then i'd say it's a sensor/plug

Hi mark how were you able to narrow it down to the lambda and not the TDC? Did Renault hook it up to a diag machine or something?

ODBC reader said upstream lambda - AA man told me.

This was more than the normal flat spots when cold. I struggled to keep it above 30mph, then it suddenly cleared and just missed every now and then once warm.

renault CLIP test

Is this the name of a Renault diag? Im only asking because i know if i approach Renault without knowing the facts they will have a field day charging me for everything.

Car is horrible when cold, sounds like revs are peaking and dropping making it kangaroo. Once i get out of 1st when pulling off this problem isnt that bad when cold. My temp gauge has also stopped reaching spot on halfway which it used to always sit at, its recently always showing 1/3 even after a 2hr drive.

dont even try and go past 3k in mine untill she's warm. Think of the damage you would do without giving everything chance to heat up and expand properly

yes the units called a clip, we had a offical one at the garrage i used work at, cost 3 grand!

Sounds like thermostat or temp sensor is up the duff, does the temp increase if you remain stationary?

Apologies if i didnt make it clear.

When starting from cold the temp sensor is showing cold (at the bottom). It then gradually creeps up as you would expect after 5~10mins of either being stationary or driving around. But instead of creeping upto halfway like it used to, it now doesnt go above 1/3 regardless of how long ive been driving around for.

Ive booked in at Renault Sunwin (shudder) for a CLIP test. Feb 3rd. Lets see what happens.... other than me being ripped off i mean.

No no, you were perfectly clear, but to clarify what I meant wait for the car to get to 1/3 up the gauge and then hold the car at 2000rpm stationary, does the temperature increase then? If so I'd say thermostat is stuck open.
