Clio In-Car Satnav...

Got my Clio 172 on tuesday, with the factory fitted sat nav...

Was just wondering, can you update it so that it has a more modern look to it (the maps are very basic and im guessing very outdated)?
You cant even type in a postcode, you have to input the adress...
I know it has a thing in the boot, where you can insert a disc for it.

If so, where can you get these discs from and what sort of price will i be looking at? Is it a Renault dealership job :S?

Thanks

Disk will just contain the maps, so you can get updated ones.

There may be firmware updates but I highly doubt you will ever get it to postcode searching.

Tbh I doubt it. You'll get it to a level that atleast has every road on it, but not masses more. Firmware updates will probably just update the gps engine.

Very similar to the issus we're having with a system in an 06 golf gti. There's no way of getting it '3D' or postcode searching with discs, only by retrofitting a newer system at £££.

you wont get it to be any more "advanced" than it is now, map updates are as future-proof as it'll get.

I was gonna say just replace the unit, until I noticed you've got a huge cowling that'd then be redundant. so a new HU & auxiliary screen would be in order, now it's starting to run into £££££££££££

Alpine do kits for just this kind of thing, but, like I said, it'll cost

Thats one thing I have got to consider... Ive just got the car lol so im pretty broke atm!

Needing some standard 172 wheels, as one of the wheels that are currently on (OZ F1 replicas), is buckled so im going back to standard!
and the rear brake pads are getting ready, so im thinking of getting the uprated K-tec rear brake kit.... I think I should put these first before spending loads on a luxury lol!
I can see how an RS drains you of all your £££!!!

I have in-car satnav

I can use it for postcode searching, you enter the first 4 digits of the postcode anyhow. But then you narrow it down by road name and number.

I was led to believe that the postcode searching was new with a particular update, I think I have 2008 maps, and that it was introduced then.

I do prefer the tom tom, but at least this can't fall off the windscreen.

Interesting link Da

I assumed the OP wanted full postcode searching similar to tomtom etc. which I am convinced is unobtainable on the renault carminat system. Partial postcode searching is avalible as dancook points out but is only as accurate as the map CD is up-to-date.

Harpham, it can be updated to a degree as far as I'm aware. Have a look here.

Full postcode search would be useful tbh... I also wanted to know if updating (i.e. getting a new disc or whatever) would turn the display to a more 3d image (sort of like newer sat navs) rather than the plain lines that I have now?

as Dan said when i got my old 182 (which Dan now owns) it had the 03/04 sat nav disc and didn't allow postcode searching, i updated it last year to the 07/08 disc and it then allowed up to 5 digit postcode searches but you 100% can't get full postcode search with the carminat system available in the clios as far as i'm aware

the maps will stay the same no matter what updated disc you have (unless they bring it out somehow in the future in an update (which i doubt), it works well imo, basic but good (with the updated maps), the updated disc cost about £55 btw

where did you get the disc from btw?

would be nice to have updated roads, as im guessing the satnavs software is still 8 years old now
