my handbrake doesnt work, well it does, but its needs tightening, if i was going to do this myself can somebody give me a quick 60 second read through so i can attempt it myself or is this just silly, would i benefit from going to a local garage :S please help i dont want to come out to my car one day and its rolled off somewere

Get the Haynes manaul.

yeah, i would get a Haynes manual. i have a mk1 and it is so usefull i have used it loads of times.

how much are haynes manuals and are we on about the normal one or the max power haynes manual? or are they both useful?

basically, the is a heatshield above the exhaust below the handbrake. remove this. then you will see a u shaped metal bracket with some adjustable nuts on it, turn these until the cable are tight, andd then put car back together

Try the adjusters on the drums. Will tighten them up quite nicely.

Right next to the wheel cylinder.

dont buy the max power one, its rubbish, get the normal one
