So as per my previous threads the giulia quad went off to pastures new via carwow, was genuinely gutted watching it drive off but it was starting to give me expensive bill incoming vibes and with monies needed for a house renovation it had to make way.
Went through all sorts of potential replacement searches as you do but kept coming back to the MK4 RS, needed 5 door for the kid and Auto for the boring motorway commute to Birmingham city centre at all times of the early morning when a manual entertaining hot hatch couldn’t be further from my interest.
Decent ones in my budget for £5k were scarce, went to look at a LY but being modified insurance was just stupid and it just stood out too much and was abit ropey so left that one.
Finally spotted one on the Facebook group which was being sold as it turns out by Alex from AW motorworks, it’s done 123k but had the same owner for last 10years and he’d just took it on due to needing A replacement TCM for the gearbox which is a known weakspot and the previous owner couldn’t be bothered to sort by the sounds of it, In the end Alex did all the required work plus a major service and a mechanical tidy up so in that respect it was tip top, much prefer having the higher mileage but mechanically sorted car which also came with a nice big folder of receipts to boot.
Bodywork on this car is the let down and the price reflected this but nothing that can’t be sorted also turns out the car was previously a ex Renault press car for the launch in the Uk along with a LY they used so it’s basically fully specc’d
Heated leather seats
Cup pack
Reverse camera
Reverse Sensors
Climate
RS monitor etc
Managed to find a link to a review in which the car featured http://www.speedmonkey.co.uk/2013/07/clio-renaultsport-200-turbo-review.html?m=1
There’s also a few YouTube Vids with the car in aswell but most of the Big magazines seem to have featured the LY car.
Picked the car up from Alex after a nice train trip down to London then out to Essex and drove back to brum perfectly
Few small things were quickly sorted to tidy it up
- Number plates cleaned and fresh screws/caps
- Headlights wet sanded and polished
- Some stone chips touched up where possible
- checked rear lights for water ingress as boot carpet was abit wet and resealed holes properly.
- Cleaned the steering wheel which after using a brand new micro fibre you could tell had been used by a mechanic for 1k miles 😂
In the end the wheel was to far gone, with the stitching just breaking and coming apart so got onto Jack @ Royal steering wheels and this arrived after a week or so, really top quality and a great service with them doing a swap process.
All was going well and then on Friday it was treated to some Birmingham city centre driving..
Dude in a works Luton van decided he wanted my lane despite me being fully on his inside in nose to tail traffic, biggest issue is he decided to drive off and down through Birminghams tunnels which resulted in me giving chase and eventually have to block both lanes to get him to stop, in the end he stopped and thanks to a kind lady who stopped and said she’d witnessed the whole thing I’ve spoken to the company he works for and should hopefully receiving the money required to get it all fixed up which is a bonus as that wing and bumper needed painting as the colour was miles off the door in certain lights!
Future plans are to potentially have the wheels done in Anthrcite and just bumble to work and back!
