Been out in the car today and it was doing it a bit every now and then but I've found when it does it now take your foot of the accelerator and put it under the pedal and lift the pedal up then the revs drop, any idea guys

It's 14 years old and in all probability it has now worn out. I have tried all the fixes including the circlip replacement, cleaning and oiling, and I also got five second hand ones to see if they were any better. After two years of messing about I bought a new one and life was sweet again (until that one also started to stick because I insist on using an ITG filter that's oiled).

Mine was sticking and tried cleaning the throttle body and replacing the cable and it made no difference. Took it to Birchdown and they replaced the idle air control valve under the inlet manifold. That sorted it. Mine is also 14 years old with 148,500 miles on it. Just done a 446 mile weekend trip with five adults and luggage all round Lincolnshire and humberside. Also did a Trackday at Oulton Park in it last week and a run into North Wales so about 1,000 miles in it last week. Never missed a beat. Average MPG 36.5 over the weekend trip fully loaded.

looks like icv, cable was fine, tb was slightly sticky on first opening so went in the ultrasonic for half an hour but didn't have enough time to try another icv.

i changed the icv on mine (although i bought one off ebay and it's not a renault\vdo branded one - and no difference. :(

well i finally found a sollution - i took off the TPS and while holding the throttle open, pushed in the little grommet thingy - it appears that my butterfly had some lateral play.
