Clio R5 Turbo

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

I know this is a Re-post but thought people could post links up i could use as my brother is thinking of buying an RT and dropping a R5 engine in but ill end up doing al the dog work which i dont mind if i get to rip it up.

So my questions are how do u mount the engine into a mk1 Clio and is it easy to use a perticular model, RT, 1.2, etc?

What custom items do i need and where can i get them such as downpipes, etc.

We will improve the suspension and brakes b4 we drop the engine in. I take it u can run it with-out any ECU with it being a carb but what are the problems with getting a rev reading and speedo, do u have to use R5 dials.

Other than the engine what do i need off a R5?

Usefull links welcome, Thanks, Michael.

ok dude, u might not get many replies coz ppl dont like repeating themselves. but i was intrested in the same thing week back, search function brings up plenty of information on it. :D

from what i gathered, u looking at everything from R5; engine, gearbox, loom, front suspension?! and also most importantly get the brakes sorted.

but search function will get everything u need.

It makes much more sense to buy a complete 5, so you have everything there.

You will need clio night and day engine mounts from the 1.1 carb model.

Also need plumbing, intercooler etc and may well need to relocate battery to behind bulkhead or in boot.

Oh and obviously reduce fuel pressure so you need different pump or maybe you could use pressure regulators??

Yes there is a regulator on the 5 which you will need, but i am not sure if that will be sufficient to reduce the pressure from the clio pump.

Not sure what psi each runs, but yes it would be better to use 5 pump too.

Well if its a 1.4 Clio then putting another 1.4 engine in, it is still a standard car. ;)

Whats the appeal if ur gonna classifiy it as a R5GTT, u may aswell buy 1!

It is so completely different!! who expects a clio GTT to pull beside you at the lights lol!

Also re registering your car as having that engine will cut the insurance down my mate done it on his fiesta as it has a puma engine

Wont be classed as conversion then just registered as that so cheaper

Vix :)

  williams 2 turbo

you need to change engine mounts, drive shafts, sh*t loads of stuff, you really need a dodnor car, then you get the brakes you need etc. this isnt the sort of thing id take on if youve never seen it done, thats why i paid someone to do it!.

theres plenty of room in the engine bay for the battery. You dont need to change the gearbox, Lowe from RSC still has the RT gearbox which has done 150k miles and its still fine. Although topend isnt as good as if hed had the 5GTT box.

Dont liverpool victora still insure the conversion as a 1.4 as its still around the same size engine?

Engine mounts need to be upgraded to R21 turbo engine mounts cheap as chips £20 tops!

Driveshafts can come off a 16v about £50

everything else comes off the donor car so would be easier with one really?

Not true about not doing it if you have never seen it before its an easy conversion and you sound like you know what your doing

My dads doing mine done lots of engine conversions before (lucky!) hehe

good luck

u cant insure it as a 1.4, cos strictly speaking, it is an engine convertion, and that is how 90% of insurance companies will c it! if u asked how much, u will get much sucking of teeth and "ohhh dont know m8, but it aint gonna b cheap" bollo.x, and chances r the only people who will insure it, will b specialists, like a flux etc!

  Skoda Fabia vRS

Liverpool Victoria have insured mine, its still a 1.4 car, EVERYTHING has been declared, ive got a letter from them saying that my car is down on there computer as having had an engine conversion from a R5 GTT

use the Clio 1.1 Night & Day engine mounts

relocate the battery, otherwise it will be very close to a very hot turbo, not something id want myself..............mines under the scuttle panel behind the bulkhead

buy a donor car, it will cost a lot more otherwise

use the R5GTT dials if your using the 5 box, which i have

suspension stays the Clio ones........

brakes id recommend a 16v setup, DONT upgrade the standard clio brakes its a 100% waste of money

the exhaust section id get sorted out by a good powerflow dealers
