Clio Sport 172 not idling and turning itself off

I have recently purchase my first clio sport, I have been driving this fine with no warning lights but when I was driving it today and came to a stop my car started revving on its own and then eventually turned itself off. I went to turn the car back on but this wouldn't turn on, I ended up having to get a jump and this turned on fine and was revving normally once I took the jump leads of the car then cut out again. I was able to drive it back after another jump and I had to drive it back home constantly revving the car, the battery to my knowledge doesn't look too old so I didnt think it would have been that, i'm pretty much at a loss at what the problem is and don't know what to check. Has anybody got any ideas what the problem could be? This is a 2003 model.

Alternator? battery run down until voltage critical? First thing i would check!

Thought it might have been that but I didn't think it would start in the first place if it was the altenator, once its started I can drive it fine until I have to stop and it will then turn off whilst idling. Not sure if that would make a difference?

possibly, get that tested before you go to far! It will run without it no problem.
