clio sport that sounds like a diesel...

  Racing blue 182
right, we have recently fitted a replacement engine into my clio sport.
when the engine is cold, the engine sounds sweet as a nut on tick over, as soon as the engine gets warm it sounds like a diesel??? if you rev it it sounds normal, just on tickover it sounds like a diesel!
any ideas what this could be??
cheers :)

Thats how the pulley sounds when it needs changed, in some almost a very hollow knocking in the middle of the rocker.

oh right, its just had a new cambelt and tensioners on it, didnt change the cam pulleys though. why does it only sound like a diesel when its warm though and only on tickover?

This is exactly why everybody says to take it to a specialist to get cam belts changed. They would have picked up on that and saved you a whole lot of time and money.

they had already been done on the engine when i bought it so i assumed they would of been done propely, but as with any engine you have to take a chance as to what its going to be like. atleast its not what we were expecting, we thought it may be worn pistons or something similar. is it a matter of urgency to get it done as in stop driving it now? or will it be ok to get it done the end of the month when i get paid?

thats ok, better than i was expecting tbh, as i said we thought it might be something alot worse!
i drive it sensibly anyway so should hopefully be ok, worst case ive still got the old engine lol, that only has one bent valve..
