Clio V6 mk1 OR Escort Cossy

I love both these cars to pieces.. but the Escort Cossy is more tuneable I think? (are there both rear and 4wd versions of the Cossy? what is better?) And I still really like them as they are actually very rare! They have become almost as rare as a V6. And the Clio V6.... well theres not much else to say that we dont already know, its just mad.

Both about the same money for a mint Cossy and mk1 V6. Which one would you take?

depends what you want, the escort is faster and certainly handles a LOT better than a mk1 v6. the v6 looks lovely though. all boils down to exactly what u want from the car - speed = cossie / looks/maybe driving exp/noise = v6. certainly for tuning the cossie is a lot better. cossie for me personally.

There is only a 4WD cossie - companies have converted them to rear wheel drive in the past but invlolves a lot of time and money!!

I would choose a cossie and they have always been one of my dream cars and after an incident with a M3 this morning i dont like rear wheel drive!

If I could afford to rebuild engines, turbos, transmissions, etc then a Cossie might get a look in, but for the same price you get a V6 with warranty...bit of a no brainer for me.

But what not to do:

Whilst this is unfortunately oldish news now, Ive been sent some pics of the gorgeous Reyland Cossie driven by Martin Hadland - he somehow flipped it in Morocco on the guball rally.....

Fortunately, both Mr H and passenger were ok...ish, though will thankfully will live to tell the tale. For those who dont know the Reyland beast, its 0-60 in 2.88, wiht a recorded top of 194 mph

I quite like the cossies...damn good potential for further work

whereas a vee its more difficult, as we were planning on getting a vee, but after realising its lack of tuning potential and the erm price of it all, we opted to stay japanese lol

but i spose its all down to preference

i think most agree with me then - cossie it is. i wonder what people would say if it was mk2 v6 or cossie?? it makes it a lot closer but i would still go with cossie for speed, but mk2 v for looks by FAR. again, for tuning cossie wins hands down. cossie is faster, handles a lot better than a mk1 (and prob still better than mk2 due to 4wd) but looks nowhere near as nice. it also has the luxury of 2 back seats!

one problem.......ITS AN ESCORT!!!!!
Only in as much as a V6 is a clio though...like same interior and a maybe a body panel here and there...

cossie without a doubt

cossie is better in EVERY aspect, ok the clio is mad looking but so is the cossie when it came out and will def hold more money over time as long as its been looked after

there is no way on earth ill have either v6 over a mint example of a cossie

escort cosworth all the way !
they are legendary ! and think of the value it will retain !
they are still above ten grand at 10 years old (for the L reg & older ones)

V6 will be more reliable, have warranty, be brand new, only have 2 seats.

Cossie will be faster, more potential in tuning, and still get all your shopping in.

For me, its Cossie all the way.

Normally in these V6 or ... posts id say take the v6 as its quick and not many car come close for looks. However, were taking about a Cossie here - hear what im saying...COSSIE! Different league performance wise and looks better/more purposeful. Obviously we all love Clios but anyone who could seriously choose one over a cosworth needs their head examined IMO...superior look, superior engineering.

MK1 Vee wont be brand new nor will it have a warrently prob. Also - Escort Cossies still more reliable than anything Renault could build.

Id have an Escort Cosworth over Mk1 or 2 V6. I think they look better too as well.

Ive never been in a Vee but have given 2 Sapph Cossies a good thrashing and been in an Escort Cossie a few times and can safely say they are still ahead of their time.

Never been in either, but would go for the cosworth any day

i dunno why, but i get the impression that if someone asked me what i drive, and you either said "Renault Clio v6" or "Ford Escort Cosworth", id much rather be saying cossie

the Cossie is a bit of a chav legend due to the Sierra, but at the end of the day its a classic... the Mk1 V6 aint, nor will it ever be. The other thing to consider is that the Cossie will hold its value... the Clio wont.... theres only one that does that :D

You would be suprised how crap the cossies are against new cars of today

A guy at work has a mallard green one at work, its very clean but its not as fast as youd think....he had it RRd at aldon auto in merry hill and it made a solid 260bhp and its a stage 1 tune i think.....he pulls about 3 cars on me in my standard 172 to 110mph,the thing has cost him thousands and whilst i agree they look good they are now old and it shows against my standard clio

ian

i would save a little more and get an evo 6,there only 15k now for a low mile one

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

Evo 6 or any evo will lose all its value in no time due to Mitsi bringing new ones out every other week!

Sierra Cosworth is a legendary car no chav mobile. If people knew the history of how the car came together then theyd realise what an awesome piece of machinery it is even by todays standards.

For a start a standard cossie is DE-TUNED as Ford didnt think a family sized car should be that fast.

Stage is simple - stage 2 isnt much more - stage 3 which is easily 350bhp will make most cars look stupid.

Mates ols Sapph cossie was 262bhp at BB Tuning when I took my MR2 up there. That thing was doing low 13s every time at the pod. No way a 172 could keep up.

Standard Escort Cossies are not as fast as you would think. Youll probably spend months trying to find a straight standard example. If you are going to go down the AWD Turbo route, think about the EVo 6 TME or even a P1.

Ford 4wd system is heavy and saps BHP in comparason to the Jap stuff.

I would take the Cossie but as much for the Looks as anything else. German built too.

Clio V6s dont really float my boat that much.

Evos are the new Cossie IMO - I like Subarus but they arent as reliable as they should be.

I would like a Cossie at some point as its a good car that looks great.

The Evos a great car that looks good - and im vain;)

Guess Paul the P1s a great car that looks great LOL but some of my friends have had some horrors with their scoobs thats just put me off a bit.

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf

The escort cosworth in standard 227bhp form gets to 100 in 18 secs which is standard 172 territory,An evo would trounce it and so would the V6.

Although they pounce of the line with 4wd and get to 60 in 5.7 secs the 4wd kills the power big time.Which would explain when i race my mate in his round an island ond onto a d/c from around 25mph plus he doesnt really get anywhere, yet he has nearly 100 bhp more than me......The other thing with the cossie engines is their reliability.......A 330 bhp model will need a rebuild every 10-15k at a cost of £3grand a pop and thats if you know good people

A good example of this power sapping is getting an evo 6 on the track against a rwd 3door cossie with 330 bhp...Down the straight the cossie would kill the evo......does anyone remember the clarkson vid of the m3 roadster killing a evo 6 down the straights in a mad dash a few years back

Like youd turn down a Focus RS due to it having a Ford badge on it.

Cossie every time. My b/f has an escort cossie and its awesome. A fortune in petrol bills but its worth it. But then again if the servicing on evos wasnt so ridiculous id get one of them any day.
