Clio wont start

the wife has a 1997 renault clio 1.4 rt auto it has been nothing but trouble trying to get a new exhaust cheaply changing bits and pieces gone to move the car today and it wont start just makes a single click sound checked the battery terminals charged the battery told it may be the starter motor bashed that with a hammer nothing has anyone else got any ideas what it might be hoping its summit simple that i dont have to plough more money into cant bump it casue its and connected jump leads to it from my car and still does the same thing so sure its not the battery

Where are you based mate?

It could be the starter motor but it could also be a simple case of the wire to the solenoid being in poor condition... needs looking at by someone in the know really though.

As Mick says it may be the Starter motor solenoid wire, I had the exact same problem in December and the car just made a single click noise, hit the starter motor with a jack handle but nothing. Got it Bump started and took it too a Garage and they replaced the starter motor wire and it's been fine since.

Im suprised its lasted 14 years to be honest , scrap it.
