Cliosport Insurance.

  The Jinx

Just spoke to Greenlight. Theyre insurers dont do Manchester for modified cars.

Great. Thats dead useful for a club like Cliosport.

  The Jinx

Which leads me to my next question. Anyone know any good insurers for modded cars, that dont discriminate against us Mancunians?

  The Jinx

Or Liverpool. London. Newcastle.

Although Manchester is often restricted, even though crime rates are no worse than any other cities, esp. those thieving feckers from Liverpool;)

a fair amount of companies dont cover under 21s on normal cars, never mind modd cars :S

It may not depend on the crime rating of manchester, but the car crime factor, you may find it higher than other areas...

Any response from Cliosport admin as to why the club insurance doesnt cover us Mancunians?
Why dont you email mailto:insurance@cliosport.net">insurance@cliosport.net. Youre more likely get a reponse than on this thread, seeing as Geoff doesnt always read the forum.

And although it may be club insurance, sadly we cant dictate their terms and conditions to them! We can ask them why they dont offer it though.

Im not that bothered, knowing that HIC have quoted so ridiculously low, but it seems odd to team up with an insurance company that dont cover Englands 2nd city (runs for cover), when there are quite a few members here.

Ho-hum.

Beggers cant be choosers - even if its going to help 1 of our members its worth us going for. Although we will be speaking with them as to why.

I actually took advantage of the club Insurance today and i thought they were spot on. they quoted me lower FC by a fair margin than most companies quoted me TPFT. Im in London and they had no probs quoting me. Top company, good on the phone and very helpful

Good man Brun, speaking the truth :) Lower car crime than Manchester, Birmingham, London, Cardiff, Bristol...I could go on. Its a bit unfair discriminating against an entire city though, every major city has its good/bad areas.

Quote an insurance company that dont cover Englands 2nd city Well fingers crossed they cover the capital of culture 2008 ;) Has anyone got a quote off them with a GTT conversion by any chance?

  The Jinx

Capital of Culture. Pffft. City thats the most run-down and needs a handout.;)

Only joking, honest.

Insurers are crap though the way they exclude certain areas. My mum + dads village used to have as high a premium as Newcastle City Centre (when I was up there). They (Direct Line) claimed that it was because it was rough.

When told that its just a village with virtually no crime they said, "Well its got an OL postcode, so it has Oldham crime figures."

WHAT! Its not even in Oldham you muppets, thats just the nearest sorting office. Rochdale also has OL postcodes so does that get Oldham crime figures?

Where I live now has a Wythenshawe postcode, athough its not in Wythenshawe, and if I lived the other side of our back fence it would be an SK postcode and my insurance would be £100-150 less. Madness.

Lets hope the proposed EU shake up of insurance goes ahead, as this would prevent them from discriminating to the same extent.

I have an OL postcode and actually live in Oldham (in the hills mind away from the scummy bits lol) and I am insured with Greenlight - have been for the last 2 years?! And before that I was insured with Direct Line

Maybe you sounded dodgy on the phone ;) :)

It is stupid tho, HIC wouldnt quote me at all because of the OL postcode.. different rules for different companies I guess

Just had a quote off Neil @ Greenlight

Cheapest BY far out of the companies Ive spoken to up to now

Leaving HIC til the end to see how low they really are, but the Greenlight price is good!

Also they quoted me £15 to add an exhaust, and around £35-40 to modify the ECU.

Sorry I haven’t responded to this but it is hard for me to always check the forum for specific threads. If you ever have a problem with the insurance scheme then contact me on either mailto:geoff@cliosport.net">geoff@cliosport.net or mailto:insurance@cliosport.net">insurance@cliosport.net and I will endeavour to answer the queries.

I have just had an email from Neil at Greenlight which has brought this to my attention and thought I would let you know his response, as it is only fair to hear both sides of the story. I know many members have been happy with the quotes from Greenlight and I’m sorry that they couldn’t quote for you Mike. Basically insurance areas are grouped by postcode and although you may not have a bad insurance history, the area may. I live in Bedford but come under a Milton Keynes postcode, which has higher crime rates and puts my insurance up, but there is nothing I can do about it. Neil has explained why they couldnt quote on this occasion:

The way our area ratings work the underwriters track claims by postcode and work out a loss ratio per postcode. We have had a massive 7 figure claim from an M postcode so the figures for Manchester look terrible. With the other claims in that area it worked out for Manchester (M) postcodes we are paying out £11 for every £1 taken in and the underwriters will not continue to write business at a loss.

We could have increased our rates in Manchester by 11 times but the prices would be very uncompetitive and basically we would be wasting the clients time for the 3-5 minutes it takes to do a quote and thought it best to tell them at the start. Because we are a broker we are tied down to our underwriters’ criteria.

So it isn’t really Greenlight who are saying no to you Mike but the underwriters. Hope this answers your questions.

  RIP Dan

Well after reading all this.....i have a stainless full system and an induction kit on my williams 1.....do i need to tell the insurance co about this?

  Silver Fabia vRS

You should really declare anything on the car if it is not a standard fit. You could get away with saying the exhaust is just a replacement and does not increase power but may not be able to with the induction.
