Clutch Cable

Car being service today and asked them to check my clutch cable as it has the common sticky problem.


They have advised me that the cable needs replacing but they want to charge.

£17.86 +vat for the cable

£120+vat for 1 1/2 hours labour


Total £161.98 to fit a clutch cable:S

I am not skilled enough to do it myself but should I get the cable and call a mobile mechanic to fit it.

Are they easy to fit ???

I know I nearly collapsed when they told me.


+ the £70 they want to do the reverse switch.

No way man, id take it somewhere else seriously. I need mine doing really bad but theres no way i can afford that. I go back uni next week and will be skint as it is

Im going to get the cable as I have read other threads that state how important it is to use an original one.


Will get a mobile mechanic to fit it.

Yeah i read the same thing to actually, always best to use genuine parts like.

How much you reckon it would cost for a mobile one to fit?

Just got my cable won't be taking it to reno for fitting though as they should wear masks at them prices .. bloody robbers ..

Not sure but I I will be happy to pay 50 notes.


Renault have got to order the part anyway.

Should this not be a warranty issue? Mines being doing it for months but it's getting worse now.

Most Cups are outta date for warrenty now mate, your 182 cup maybe able to get it done but im not sure as they usually give ya s**t about clutch work etc

Half price so booked it in.


Appently sometimes they can be a bit of a pig to put in,something to do with fixing the cable to the pedal can be a bit of a nightmare.

I had mine changed my Mike@Rentech, and he didn't charge me anythink like that, i think it was around £80, i'll double check when i get home.
