clutch release bearing and arm

  F4R'd ITB'd '92 cup racer
right i am on a proper mission to get all the parts i need to complete the 172 conversion, one of them on my list is a clutch release bearing and arm

the 172 engine i bought has a clutch on it (the engine has done around 20k so i am very tempted to leave it be and get some use out of it) however i need a release bearing and arm from a 172

i am using the valver g'box if that makes any difference?

please can someone either point me in the direction of someone who can supply me with one, or give me a renault part number so i can get them there?

does anyone know if the release bearing can be purchased seperately? or am i going to have to buy a complete clutch kit just for the bearing?

as it looks like the easiest option in terms of driveshafts, rear mount etc

watch your gonna tell me i can use a 172 box with no problems now arent you!? :quiet:

are the ratio's massively different between the two boxes?

Personally i'd put a new clutch on it just as a matter of course and that would solve the release bearing problem, release arm from what I can tell it the same as the non RS clios so scrappy maybe? Could be wrong on that though, does look the same at first glance.

why are you using a valver box?

Its going into a valver i'm assuming?

lol no worries ben

bmh.01 - yeh it is looking like a new clutch job, that way i know the clutch is good and as you say it will solve the release bearing prob

right can anyone confirm the arm is the same as non RS models?

surely you would think renault would sell the part seperately? but i dont have a reg of a 172 and if i give them the valver reg they are bound to get me the wrong part! even if i explain it is a 172 clutch!

There all the same from what i've got, part number:

77 00 112 818 CLUTCH FORK 31.54 ---3 x 1

Might not be concurrent though so still best to give them a ring.

that is spot on bud, i will give them one of the 172 reg's and see if that part number matches

cheers

lol just rang them (thought it best before i drive down there!)

gave him a reg, got it on screen, clutch fork and bearing come as a kit, but he says they have suffix's for the gearbox going from 000 right through to 227 lol asked if i had a suffix to give him (i dont even have the geatbox but im not telling him that)

he is looking through all 227 and ringing me back as the first few he tried came up with no price so he is doing it by process of elimination lol

helpful guy tho (theres still time for him to balls this up lol)

The trouble may arise there if the relase fork is made for the bellhousing of the gearbox as the 172 uses the JC5 box whereas the valver a JB3 box.

right spoken to the guy at renault again

he narrowed it down to 2 parts, one he selected is written in french so he is assuming they dont order many of them??!?!? the other was giving a part number of 77 00 725 720 can someone check that on the dialogys?

says it is £20 + VAT which is suprisingly cheap, thats for a release bearing and clutch fork (come as a kit)

he has asked me to get the code off the box so he can get the right one, however seeing as im not using a 172 box shall i just get the one he quoted, its not like im losing loads of money if its the wrong one!

if anyone has a pic of the 172 clutch fork that would be a great help and i can compare it to the one i get

why not use the valver release arm in the valver box? unless your doing it for the soft pedal properties.

i have been told the arm is a different shape and can cause issues??

and i havent questioned him cos his is a fully working specimen lol

yeah there the same length etc but the end that holds the release b is different i think the 172 has a smaller rounded bearing nose . but im on the case !!!!

cheers wayne :) (again)

dan - have you been able to try the clutch out at all? there are so many people using so many different combinations lol its just finding one in a running car thats difficult lol

I found with my combo that the clutch cable was slightly too short, so ive modified the outer cable to give me more inner cable. havent tried it yet, gotto fit the new clutch pedal.

im using a 172 engine the clutch is still on the engine, im going to use a williams box, and i was going to use williams fork and bearing and the normal clutch cable, does this not work?
