its not really red lining that wears them its when you take up drive or change gear. eg-holding on the biting point, slipping it when changing gear, hard gear changes etc. when you booting it then the clutch is engaged so even though it is under strain its locked so no slipping which produces most of the wear. excessive slipping also causes the clutch to get hot which can make it slip as it glazes over and loses it friction properties. ive changed a few clutches where the linings have a lot of material left on them but they slip like mad because the clutch linings have gone really shiny and the flywheel surface blue which indicates its got very hot. it would cost about £100 and then the parts on top of that.

most people slam gear changes aswell and downshift very poorly.

You can make the clutch last double by heel and toeing every change.

my mate does that and last time i changed the clutch for him he had snapped some of the take up springs in the middle of the clutch plate.

you have the springs in the middle of the clutch centre plate to make the take up of drive smoother. he had been that harsh with his changes that two of these springs had snapped. eventually one jumped out and jammed the clutch so you couldnt release it. thats when he had to bless my hand with silver the poor lad.

lol, sorry iw asnt clear....i know the springs.

I should of said which part of my post are you talking about, changing or the heel & toeing.

my bad

i know you wouldnt believe the amount of synchro kits we have fitted on newish jb/jc gearboxes.

lol...its why i drive everywhere cuddling my gearbox and not shifting like a moron.

Maybe they should teach double De-clutching and heel&toeing at BSM again. lol

sh*t better order a better one then..hopefully renault will come up trumps...cheers guys
how do you mean? dont think youll get a clutch under warranty. cars to old

well they fitted my last one under warranty...i should get a percenatge payment at the least cos they shouldnt go this early..car is not even two years old yet!!!

not sure because clutch linings are only under full warranty for the first year. after the first year then its up to renault if they will contribute or not but it depends on mileage. what is your mileage?

you might get a contribution towards it but without checking i couldnt really say what % of the repair renault will pay for.
