Coil Pack going? - Flashing ECU light, hesitant, sounds like 3 cylinders, high idle revs

Didn't use my car this weekend as I was away. It rained, foot well full of water (again) - now think this is a blocked drain plug in the wiper scutter as first thought I left my winder open. Then the car sounded like it was on 3 cylinders and then struggled and the engine management light was flashing at me. Then I am sure it was firing on 3 cylinders. Pulled over after about 3 miles of driving. Did the turn off/on again and was still doing it.
Then all of a sudden the car pulled away fine, sounded normal and the engine management light is now constant on. Car seems to be fine now, but I want to find out why.
Also the revs seem to be stuck at 2k when idle unless I blip the throttle and it drops to normal. Is this something to do with the fault or the sticky throttle problem with a Ph1?
Not sure if the rain has anything to do with it and a little drive has solved it and dryed it out. And the light is constant on now until I clear the fault??

It had an oil change the other week. Spark plugs were done a few months back (nice NGK ones). But I haven't done the coil pack. Car has done 165k miles.

Can you get Renault CLIP to work on this? That would be my first port of call.

I would have said the coilpack with your circumstances, but IME when a coilpack dies it literally does just that. It could on the offchance be a poorly seated HT lead.

I have a code reader but that is at my parents......90mins away! (I don't live at home). I think i will change it.
It seems to be fine now after a quick run up the road.

I have also lost my ICV breather filter, no where to be seen in the engine bay! Don't think that is the problem though.

If I am to change it, I have found one on KTR and then I might as well change the leads, thinking these

What is the difference between the blue and red? And I presume the 172/Cup ones for my Ph1?

I think the car is getting jealous I have bought another Clio as a daily drive and having a tantrum

Honestly? Most of the time the generic code readers do not give out all of the codes. BTDT on many cars with VAGs seeming to hide more codes than others.

However, it would be interesting to see what code it comes back with.

Also I would not waste your money on Magnecor leads ; they are not all that IME. Only go with genuine Renault leads IMHO or if you have to go aftermarket BERU.

sounds like a problem I had. The easiest way to check is to remove one ht lead at a time with the engine running. You'll see the spark bridge the gap. If their is a spark missing then its the coil pack.

The reader I have managed to give the right code for a fauty injector, doesn't work so well on mum's Mini. So I am hopeful it will give me something.

Ahh ok, just seems that there was loads being bought and sold in the for sale section so I thought they were good.

The pulling off the plug technique may not work if the misfire has stopped. It really could be a number of things (iffy MAP sensor or 02 sensor). How bad are your HT leads?

The EML has stopped flashing and now constant. I have just driven some fair way (probs too much for a dicky car) and it has been fine, full performance and no hesitation.

Damn if it is an injector, one has gone in the past.

I'm thinking not being used for a week and getting wet hasn't helped. But will give it a once over.

Got in the car this morning and the EML had turned itself off, winning! But decided to read the codes anyway when I got to my parents. They were:
"Injector circuit open cylinder 1"
And "random/multiple misfire".
Going to clear them and see if it does it again when it rains. Car seems fine now though.

Is it worth replacing even though it is fine now?
And which is cylinder 1? Are they in order left/right or is it the firing sequence that determines what number it is?

Cool, I'll have a look at the connections tomorrow, think it just got wet in the rain last week.
I was quoted £45 each for Bosch ones, so I may look into it over the winter.
