Coilover fitted... sunroof leaking... ? ? ?

MK1 Clio (soon to be V6)
Since fitting a set of coilovers to my phase 1 Clio 16v, the sun roof has begun to leak water. I've been told that this is a common problem if the car is lowered... is this true? Does anyone else have the same problems? How can i solve this problem? Cage? Front / rear Struts?

If the shell is twisting more because the suspension is harder and doesn't absorb so much of the cornering forces then I guess the sunroof could have been moved out of it's correct position - I can hear the whole shell creaking on mine on a cold morning when I go down a kerb and that's at about 1mph!

I guess you'd have to fully cage it to get the shell stiff enough to prevent twisting or flexing? :S

Aye, all mk1s do it round about the edges of the sunroof...usually at the rear. Nowt you can do really...taking the sunroof off and replacing the roof-to-frame seal will likely cure it...it did on mine...

I didn't lower my 172 but I did have a leak from the interior light above the gear knob. It kept dripping all over my legs, stereo and gear knob. I took out the interior light, un-bolted the aerial and took it out. Sealed the area with silicon sealant and bolted it all back together. Never had a problem since. Seals on these cars go easily and it may just be a coninsidence that you lowered your car when it started leaking. Try sealing it with silicon sealant.

Hope it helps.

You may need to replace the entire seal if it's the sunroof. I started rambling on about my aerial and got confused thinking it was that...

My sunroof was leaking. Had to get the seal from Renault, was about £37 iirc. It goes inbetween the plastic bit of the sunroof and the metal on the roof. It took me about two days to do. I had to remove soem of the roof lining to get to the screws holding the sunroof in place. Make sure you wear gloves when doing this, as the roof lining is fibreglass.

One final note, use loctite on the bolts when you put the sunroof back together. Will stop it squeaking/rattling.

Sorry only just seen yours is a mark 1, mine is a mark 2 but can't see there being too much of a difference
