cheers neil

  Audi A3 TDI 170 B.E.
Don't get GAZ had them on mine and car was never the same.

The adjustments made no difference and would only be be drivable on the hardest setting.

I fitted konigsports on Middo's ph1 fom Gasperformance. Really good kit and easy to fit. Think he got them cheaper than 2modified but not 100%!

If you can I'd stretch to Konigs as you get the adj Koni's too!

he did mention that, may give him a pm on here to get a good description of them all

has middo had them set up properly? any camber sorrection bolts or anything?

Well I've heard the highsports c an be a little bouncy in the 172's with the extra weight of the engine.
Yeah it's not harsh even when you have them set into the harder range, just really controlled.
We fitted them with camber bolts are levelled everything as best we could and it handled well, he's since had them set up and aligned properly and it's worlds apart! Definately worth the £1-200 difference IMO mate!

Personally I'd spend that bit extra on decent suspension and set-up. Unless you realy want to run low then why not get a fixed height kit? Koni, Bilstein etc. You're getting the same dampers as the more expensive coil and a spring weight more suited to the car and height as it's un changable.

Save's money and you can still have the same camber/toe set-up too......

Group buy on Konig's? ;)

See what Russ can do Freeboner, if you could get a few people together it may save you a few £ £ £

I thought it was my computer, lol. Bilstein kit looks better and goes lower......

They must do... They make the PSS coilovers to suit so you'd imagine they'd do those to. Maybe give Tweeks a ring??

yeah think i will chap, cheers for all the help so far, been very helpful

you recon the 60/40 drop will be quite nice and low? do you know how far middo's is down?

M

mini-valver

More than enough mate! I would it down 2/3 on the front and 10mm uo the thread on the back and we couldn't get over speedbumps, lol. 40mm ish is a really nice height looks and handling wise, Any lower and it's crashy and will throw you about on a bumpy road, make the back all light!

on the phone now

the chap has said..even though it says 40 - 60mm it will only go down 20mm on the bilsteins, he is coming back to me with price though.

M

-20?? I'd be sceptical over that especially as 40mm is quite a lot to be out, lol!!

well thats what he said....lol....

he said they lower it for handling not for looks....lol

may have to call back anyways, i rang from work phone and i don't think he took my number to call back

Ah fair enough. Yeah but you'd think with Bilstein, what they say is what you'll get! There's 2 sets B10 and B12, he might have them mixed up!

the 20mm drop makes sense, if you drop the car too far the roll centre will effectively be underground, that means that different elements of the suspension are working against each other. the ideal height should in theory be so the wishbones are level. mine is set up for driving, and it's lower than standard, but not scraping the floor.

I'm considering konis aswell but have read on here that they rust quite easily which makes me think is it worth the extra cash for silverline x's? They fully made of stainless steal am i right?

no worries, i don't know all the ins and outs of it. but i did sit and talk to someone who designs suspension setups for a living. as far as i can remember the ideal situation is for the centre of gravity and the roll centre to be in the same place, to calculate the roll centre you imagine a line from each wishbone, and where they cross is the centre. so if you have a car lowered with the wheels tucked into the arches the lines would point downwards and actually meet underground. that has the effect of a lever between the centre of gravity and the roll centre and can magnify weight transfer. (as far as i can remember anyway) if you are interested phone dave gallop at track developments near castle combe, he can explain much better than i can. all i can say is i would definately recommend their work!!
