Hi I was hoping somebody could give me a deatiled description on how you go lower with the coilovers. I have FK's and I know that you need the 1/2 key things... which I have.

I was hoping to go a wee bit lower at the front this weekend, but im not going to touch it untill I have a better idea of what im doing.

If someone can tell me then please do.

Thanks
Ben

Thanks Yozza, can you tell me more on what the platforms are ? how do I do it ? Is it hard ?

As above, you'll need to have the axle off the floor, that you plan to adjust. Take the wheel off, undo the platform lock ring and move up or down, as you require.
Once you've adjusted a side, lightly tighten the platform lock ring, put the wheel back on with 2 bolts/nuts, lower it down and roll it back and forwards and bounce the car, to get the car to settle. You'll then need to measure the distance between the centre of the wheel, and wheel arch, to get a ride height. Do this on all four wheels, as, if you adjust one corner, it will affect the others.
Then repeat the adjustment process, to get the desired ride height for each corner.

You'll have to get your alignment re-checked as, changes in ride height, will effect toe alignment.

N.b. if your car has already been set up with the coilvers, adjust each corner by the same amount, to lower the car the same all round, and maintain consistency with each corners ride height. For example, if you lower the front near side by 1 turn of the platform, lower the other 3 corners by 1 turn of their own platform too.

Needless to say, this isn't a quick job.

Just to make things clear, you're trying to adjust the part that the coilover body screws into. So, once you've undone the correct lock ring, you'll be turning the coilover body to adjust height.

Thankyou young, much more helpful
Oh, and you'll need to do this on a perfectly flat surface. ;)

No you dont... (not if they are already set up!)

I used to use a permanent marker - mark one of the castelations on the top ring, loosen the lower ring.

then count how many revolutions you lower the top one by. Leave the mark in the same place as it started and tighten the lower lockring up against it.

repeat on the other side and thats one axle done.

do the same with the rear.

once you've done it check you can get full lock in both directions and also that your tyre isn't rubbing against the adjusting rings.. (depends on camber setup)

p.s. the threads are rougly 1mm pitch from memory so 10 revolutions is around 10mm lower.

just get it slammed and stop f4nnyin aboot min!

coilovers are a c**t because you slam your car, get used to how it looks and want it lower so lower it even more then get used to it and want it lower again haha
