coilovers review

Car  182, 6r GTi
hi guys and girls im now looking to get a set of coilovers for my 182 with cup suspention.
there seems to be allot of people wanting coilovers just to go lower, in my case that dosent make a difference its just a bonus. id like some coilovers suited to track days and not just fast road.

so from what iv herd

k-tec coilovers- too soft, can go low on them, good handeling caracteristics.
gaz coilovers - few quality isues, verry hard, good handeling caracteristics.

please could you say what coilovers you would use and why

thanks steve

Currently I've got Gaz. All 4 dampers are leaking oil, and the handling is shocking.

I'll be going for something new in a few weeks hopefully.

lol, If you want trackday coilovers, then forget the KTEC rubbish etc.

If you want proper coilovers then look into:

KWs
ASTs (what I have = awsome)

I cant remember the other good ones at the moment, Im sure someone will fill you in.

Neither of them are very good mate.

If you want quality, Bilstein, kw, H&R or AST are the way to go.

You won't get KW's to fit cup hubs. Not without drilling out the bolt spacing. Something that I'd like to do, but as Dan @ 519 has pointed out to me, try claiming under warranty when they've been butchered to fit.

Very good point Dave.... Scrub kw's from the list then. Shame because I think they're probably the best road / track compromise coilover.

FK's Konigsports seem to get overlooked,

Obviously not as good as AST, Bilstein ect but they're a great mid range Coilover and i didnt fancy paying 1k or so on suspension for the weekend toy.
Well made adjustable platform with the Koni adjustable inserts. After Koni shocks with Eibach springs i thought this was the next step.

I had H&R's on my previouse black Clio Sport, then had them on my RB182 cup they are very good, but then I got the AST's and in comparison they are out of this world... Had them on over a year now and they realy are that good, but they are a much harder ride...

Goes to show how personal suspension choice is. I wouldn't fit AST's if they were free.

What dont you like about them..? Only problem I had on one of the front damper adjusters it stoped clicking when turning it to hard/soft it was the bleed bolt and was a cheap quick fix from powerstation...

Been done to death. Once bitten, twice shy.

FK - Highsports, rubbish and rusted (Made it low tho)
FK - Konigsports - Promised to be much improved, They wern't but didn't rust
HR - Leaked and rusted.

KW - Best i've seen and driven!

My H&R rusted to fook asweel but never leaked had them on at least 5 years on one car and one year on the other... AST's no rust what so ever and no leakes... My broth has KW on him bimmer and says there good but they are not ajustable inuf for me...

Not adjustable enough?! Aye, the trip to asda is reliant of the rebound setting....Come on be realistic! a 2 way set up is more than enough for road/track use.

The 3 way on mine is overkill, it's set to a decent height, a couple of degree of camber at the front, less at the back and 8:16 clicks damp and rebound!

Alright people i am also looking for coilovers for my 182FF.

I got mine from AST themselves, they're based in the same building as Powerstation in Tewkesbury. Just down the road from me, so it was inevitable really.
