Coilovers

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
I'm after some coilovers for my 1.2 8v Clio, Not needed for performance, just as they are thinner than standard shocks, so I can fit my 19's. Original plan was airbags, but in the flesh they have dissapointed me.

Basically I have a few questions:

I want to put a 2.0 16v engine in when the rest of the car is done ( i know it wont be fast, but will be more driveable and have bragg value) Will i need to change these coilovers then, or are 1.2 8v coilovers the same as 172 one etc etc?

I'm guessing Im going to need t drop around 70mm - 80mm, do any coilovers drop this low?

Remember, performance is not the at the top of priorities.

Thanks

172 and none Rs coilovers are difference so you'd have to sell the 1.2's on and buy the 172 ones you could doge them but I wouldn't risk it as you'd need new springs anyway.
Fk's drop about that low but you'll need to get cutting at the arch liner etc to make it work.

If you want to save money get an APEX 60mm or so kit there about £330 or so.

ive bein told coilovers are thinner than the Standard set up and aftermarket kits, so need coilovers.

I have no arch lining or anything anyway lol

thanks

so he can get 19's on edde! lol

i'd go for FK's again, but not sure how much clearance you'd need tbh

He needs them thinner so the shocks dont rub on the wheels.

If he's just doing an engine drop how will the suspension be affected?
it wont mate, if its all bolting to the same running gear.

thanks for the help guys. As confirmed, thinner shocks = more space for wheel :)

Im dreading having to buy another Pirelli P-Zero in 215/35/19 when the time comes though lol :(

The 172 running gear is different when you do a tranplant you should (or the easy way) is to change the gearbox to a 172 one (since the 1.2's doens't fit . Then you have to change the shafts for 172 as there longer also chnage the wishbones and hubs and brakes for 172 ones sice the driveshafts are longer Also you need to chnage the ARB and shocks for the as there have a different hub size as well as spring and damper rates.

The 172 engine weights more so you should use the higer poundage springs.

I thought this would be the case, its always bloody money with cars!

Saying that, the 172 engine conversion is way off yet, I've got quitealot of exterior work still to do, they interior isnt even started, then I can get the engine transplant. Id do a ful lconversion (rear beam and running gear) but use 4 pots instead of the standard brakes :)

Also, do they need to take the front bumper, grille etc off to get the engine in????

Looks like i cant do a conversion then, LOL!
You don't have to take the front off. You can have the car lowered over the engine and go that way round and just protect the paintwork with covers when people are leaning over and working.

yep no need to remove the bumper/grill just drop the car over the engine and do it that way, thats the way we done it when we had mine out, well not fully out just dropped down!
